Dell R720 and ESXI 5.1 Issue

ok so just got a dell r720 server we already have 2 r710s and a couple of hps amongst a few others.

the issue im having is.
I have installed esxi 5.1 ( using the dell image from there site becuase the standard image does not support the nics (broadcom) )
now if i it as dhcp it works fine. if i set to static from the console it does not ping.
but if i set the ip via vsphere it pings and works fine untill a reboot.

sugestions?

Sure the spec is 100% the same?

Try re-installing esxi. Shouldn't take long.

I built this exact same combination last week and have set a static IP from within ESX with no issues. I'd suggest reinstalling as it only takes a matter of minutes.

re installed loads of times.. turns out bios update fixed it.

How easy is it to upgrade from ESX 5.0 to 5.1? We've got an R710 at work, is it worth doing?

Piece of cake, either use the update manager or 5.1 install disc and perform a upgrade install.

I've done it at both home and work in a production environment, and haven't had a hickup yet using the upgrade install.

I've also used vsphere update manager to upgrade from 5 to 5.1 and had some probs using the hp iso, due to orig install being a non hp install. After getting right iso everything went smoothly.

Is 5.1 much better? Any 'must have' improvements?

Will put it on my list of things to do but if there's something immense that comes with 5.1 i'll bump it up my list!

5.1 removed the ram restrictions on licensing, but it depends if that will affect you
