OK the time has come to venture into the portable world and have been recommended to try a Dell Refurbished site called MCScom.

Found a decent laptop for the price ideal for my budget (£420)

It would really just be used for uni work and the odd game and media use when back home (nothing to strenuous just something like Rome Total War)

Will be pretty pricey once you add on an os - unless you're going linux. Good laptop other than that though.
 
You should try out Dell outlet, it just brought a laptop for my dad, it was 15inches but everything else was basically better or the same, it came with a T8100 which is 2.1ghz and better CPU I think, 4gb ram, 320 GB 7200rpm HDD and a ATI 5470 And it was under £400 and it had Windows 7 64bit so give them a try.
 
I went dell Outlet too, there was a bit of an issue with my order and it took a bit longer than expected to be delivered but I got the spec I was after at quite a reduced price compared to buying new. The laptop even looks brand new :)

I then used the savings to buy a few extras/upgrades for it lol
