Dell Rep what a joke

As the U3011 is out of stock I called Dell to try and get a good deal. The sales rep was telling me the price is £1120 I said no thanks I can get it online for much cheaper under £900 and he said the reason it's that price from Dell is because of the three year warranty and pixel guarantee. I said this is the same online I get the same warranty and he insisted I don't, but on OCUK it clearly states you do.

He said he will give me a 10% discount at something like £1120 I said no again.

He said he would match a price online once I told him I'm not intersted and he matched it to £995 I said no thanks again.

The Americans have it so good getting it for £700 after speaking to Dell reps.

I'm kinda annoyed because he lied to me about warranty and asked me all my details about where I live and my phones number etc before I could even talk to him, should ask that once I've agreed to order.

*Wow he just sent me an email with nothing but the word Test. What is that suppose to mean, is he testing if my email is real? How unprofessional.

They always tow that line - "doesn't have the dell warranty", very rarely it's true :)

You should have just declined to give your details beforehand but I suppose when it happens for the first time you don't realise it.

Same thing happens on the live chat as well, seems you can't get any discount in the UK. I asked about a discount on a monitor and a few days later I got discount codes... for full systems instead :(

Next time I will decline for sure. Well I was going to try live chat but thought I'd phone to try and swing a deal but he was having none of it. I've linked him the OCUK and a few other websites mentioning the warranty and for less than £900 but he didn't reply.

When he said that £1200 my eyebrows shot into the ceiling I am not paying that for a monitor.

Their prices are always high direct. It's mainly because most customers don't know any better and they can make big profits off them.

I remember last time my mate wanted some more memory for his Dell dimension and decided to phone them up to see if they could give him a deal on some ram.

I think the price they came back with was £67 for a 2GB stick of standard DDR2 when you could get 2x2GB DDR2 performance ram for that price and still have change.

My thoughts exactly. They should be able to sell cheaper than the shops if they are the manufacturer of the product. I don't understand because he lost me as a customer and I know most people would go else where. He's suppose to be a sales rep to get sales lol

He sent me a reply
"Hi,

The price we get you is : 971.66 all inc

Please reply to this email if you want to purchase the monitor.

Thank you"

Lol what is wrong with that Dell rep, well I think I will save myself over £100 or even more if I can find a good deal.

You called a major OEM directly expecting to get a 'good deal' on a product and actually expected them to play ball?

As a single consumer you have no chance. Being a big business however is a different story.

Dell sell in huge bulk at discount to resellers, business etc. It's actually not in their interest to undercut their own major buyers is it?

The US is just weird though :p

Also, you cannot covert USD pricing to £ meaningfully. Their taxes are lower (State dependant) and usually get better deals anyway.

Just spoken to a Dell rep about thier 27" screen best price they can do is £607 lol muppets.

Now they are asking for my contact number so the reps manager can ring to discuss the pricing lol.

Well heard from dell rep today and they are offering me the 27" for £530 but have to buy it over email so thats not going to happen :) So it looks like OCUK is the place to get one.

Every time I have dealt with Dell I have come away thinking "dear god, what a bunch of clowns"

Like of a lot of businesses, they are being run 20-30 years behind the times.

I think the call centres in USA must be a lot better as they don't outsource to foreign speaking countries.. Sometimes I think if Dell didn't sell monitors they would be out of business by now.

I once had a Dell monitor swapped out and the service was actually very good. Phoned up and described the fault (which to be fair was probably still within spec, backlight bleed) and they came and replaced it the next day and took my one away. This was also on something I bought second hand and more than a year old.

the family dell laptops hdd failed just out of warranty about 18 months ago, got quoted £180 for a 320gb replacement, i told the guy i'd 'think about it' because my mum was listening in and probably would not have liked to hear my true response. got a wd scorpio blue for about £30-40 from ocuk and the laptop was back up and running within a couple of hours. Next day the dell guy calls back. I told him what i did and that his quote was ridiculous. He then sounds very annoyed and claimed that the quote was fair because the replacement came with a one year warranty. I found it so hard not to burst out laughing whilst telling him the scorpio had a three year warranty and that dell really needs to rethink their prices

Long story short, dont bother with replacement parts from the big maufacturers. they can and will majorly rip you off
