Hey all

Just taken delivery of a Dell S2716DG from OC

Connected DVI cable to Display port on the monitor using a DVI > Display Port adaptor and i don't get any signal.

I know the adaptor is OK on my second Dell Monitor plugged into a laptop - but when i use to it on the new monitor there is no signal. Have tried two different DVI cables and same issue, all the cables work on my other monitor and laptop.

Is there any reason why the DVI > Display port adaptor i have won't work on a the new monitor.. i am loathed to start buying new adaptors and cables if i have a DOA monitor...

I've been looking onto getting a new monitor (which has display-port) and my basic understanding is that you can't convert DVI to display-port without a dedicated convertor box. The cable you have may convert display-port (output) to DVI (input / monitor) which is easy, but it can't be cheaply done the other way around.

I could be wrong though, as I only started looking into this this week, but I held off my purchase as my gfx card does not have a display-port output.

Thanks Banja - I never realised you could not do this which seems ridiculous when I have bought a brand new monitor and brand new GFX card. You kind of expect them to be able to connect easily!

So should I be going DVI to HDMI?

You'll need to connect via DP from GFX card to use the G-Sync feature (my S2716DG also came with DP<>DP cable)
