In early October i got a Dell Studio 1558 laptop for my birthday and it has worked fine but yesterday the charger stopped working. Basically, its plugged in fine like it normally is but the laptop won't charge (and now that it is out of battery it won't turn on!). i think the charger still works because the blue light at the end is still on when it's plugged in at the mains but its just not charging the laptop like it should.

When i try to turn on the laptop with the charger plugged in the white light on the side flickers but it doesn't turn on and if i try to turn it on without the charger in then nothing at all happens. Normally, it charges without having to be turned on and the white light stays constantly on but its not on at all and only flickers when i try to turn on the laptop.

Also, whether or not the battery is in doesn't affect anything. There doesn't seem to be anything physically wrong with the charger and port either (i.e not bent or anything)

i have a 1 year warranty so Dell should fix the problem when i call them on Monday, but i was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and/or can suggest anything? Do i need a new charger or is the problem with the laptop itself? Thanks.

Btw, ignore the specs in my signature thats my desktop, considering this is a hardware problem the specs are irrelevant except it has an ion lithium battery. See pictures to see what it looks like.

Does it have the coaxial plug with a fine inner pin - this can break off if the plug is not put in straight and then the laptop does not charge?

This happened to my dell studio yonks ago (had it for 3 years now). I think its the batteries they put in them, did you tend to have it plugged in while fully charged?

If so, I think that's it, just poor capability when it comes to wear and tear.
