Dell Studio 1737

Morning guys. I received a dell studio 1737 from a mate. the problem i have with it is. The screen will go from bright to dull. if i need to get it bright again i have to smack the back of the screen. any idea what the exact problem would be?

Loose inverter cable sounds most likely, pop the screen bezel off and reseat the cables to the inverter take battery out also
