Dell Studio 1747

I have the 1749.
It was my top pick, after the better part of 2months looking about.
A good review is here
It does have some minor flaws, one common complaint is does have some flex in it, but so did all the thinner screened laptops in this size range when i went to look in the local usual outlets.
Prob better if you have the time to do a couple of visits for yourself, HP's DV range was the only alternative i was considering.

i have a 1749 arriving wednesday, all i can really say about it atm is that on paper the spec looked great and the price i got for it was even better. will post my views on it when i get it

Hi,
I have a 1747 and it’s very good. It runs everything I have tried very well. I use it for work and games and I am very happy with it. The i7 Q720 is a lot faster than I was expecting. Some of the games I have tried are:
Gta4 + eflc
grid
borderland + dlc
bc2
They all run very well on medium to high settings.

I have a Dell Studio 1749, cracking laptop and superb performance for the price. Have found the top of the case above the keyboard to be a bit flexi but for performance its been pretty good.

Has an i5 540M CPU with a ATI 5650 1GB GPU and pretty much every game I’ve ran on it has performed very well with high details at either 1600 x 900 or 1920 x 1080.

Only game I’ve really had to knock the res and details down are Metro 2033, can run that at 1280 x 720- still looks good pumped over to a 42” Plasma via HDMI.

Speakers are fantastic for a laptop, the 1080 screens are a good upgrade to these and the backlit keyboard is a nice touch…

Since I’ve got my Dell Studio 1749 my poor old Desktop which is actually more powerful hasn’t had half the use it used to get. Bit of a shame, but you just can’t better being mobile and being able to play games, movies and music anywhere in the house or when out and about.

Only real issue about mine is the footprint. These aren’t small laptops, but that’s due to the screen size and the keyboard also has a numeric keypad as well..

Highly recommended bit of kit, but I’ve heard the i7 can run hot…

hope it is better luck than my studio 1737...5 motherboards in...2 graphics adapters,,,3 psu units...and new dvd writer last month..wat a pos

good job i took the 3 year warranty...i think...altho all happened within first 4 months...all replaced with refurbished parts

but the service engineers that came out were excellent

ok they were going to send an engineer, but could not guarantee it would be a new screen but "as good as new", so i asked for a replacement which they have agreed too, but will take 14 days. oh well.
