Dell Studio?

Thought I would post a quick update on the machine I mentioned earlier in the thread. I put the Windows 7 RC on it and it runs perfectly. It's quick and quiet, although it does seem to run quite hot. The screen is amazing, although not for the long of sight, as the text is tiny! The only issue I had was being unable to install the latest Catalyst drivers and enable CCC. Has anyone been able to?

I tried win7 32bit on mine. I DLed the 9.6 CCC drivers for windows 7 from ATI's site but couldnt get them to work either. In the end I used the DONOTARGUE 9.4's drivers, they are a lot newer than Dells drivers.

BTW, do you suffer with your gfx downclocking? My card shoots upto 93c and then downclocks and the temps come down again. It is painful when playing games as every couple of mins my fps dip to half.

I just ordered a Studio 15 the other day, thought it was great value....

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40Ghz, 3MB, 1066MHz)

4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]

512MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4570

320GB (5.400rpm) SATA Hard Drive

Genuine Windows Vista SP1™ Home Premium (64 BIT) - English

Fixed Internal DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive including Software

All for £540

They are nice machines and seem well screwed together. I can't comment on the graphics card clocks, as the machine is my sister's and I don't have access to it. However, I reclaimed my 7 year old Dell Inspiron 8200 from her. My how things have changed! Still, it runs Ubuntu 9.04 like a champ (P4 1.6Ghz, 640Mb RAM, 64Mb GeForce 440Go, 1600x1200 screen).
