Hi,
I have been given a Dell Dimension 9150 desktop PC by a friend to have a look at.
It wont boot to Windows ( It's running XP Media Center Edition ). All it does when switched on is POST's and then goes to the XP loading screen where the blue bar goes back and forth. It just sits like this for ever and never boots to the desktop.
Attempting "Last known good config" results in the same and trying "Safe Mode" ends up with it hanging on good auld mup.sys.
So I've been trying to do a factory restore on it. Holding down CTRL+F11 gets you to the Dell Symantec Restore screen, but the mouse refuses to work once there so I cannot click on the "Restore" button. The keyboard "Down arrow" allows me to change the button to "Reboot" which is the button below the "Restore" one but wont let me use the "Up arrow" to go back up and the "Enter" or "Return" key does nothing.
It's one of those Dell Dimensions with no PS/2 ports on the rear only USB ports for the mouse and keyboard. I have a USB to PS/2 adapter fitted to a PS/2 mouse and keyboard which appears to work fine ( at least the keyboard does ) but just cannot work out how to continue the restore process as I cannot click on it.
Anyone shed any light on how to get past this issue?.
Ta.
