Hi guys,

I have made my return to windows after being a solely OSX user since 2006. Needed a budget laptop so bought a Dell Inspiron 15, it came with Windows 8 and I was quite excited to try it.

So far it has taken some getting used to and I haven't really given it a lot of time yet so still learning.

One major annoying thing I have found though is that the Dell trackpad setting keeps resetting. I tick reverse scrolling so that when I use the trackpad to scroll down I use two fingers to swipe down (rather than the default of up). Now and then after I wake the laptop from sleep the setting reverts back to non reverse scrolling!

Does anyone know what this problem this?

Thanks
Michael

First thing I would do is see if there are any software updates for whatever config utility you are using, or trackpad driver updates from Dell.

Unfortunately a lot of the trackpads that come with Windows machines are just tragic, especially if you're coming from a Mac.

Slight side topic but since you mention budget laptops I was messing with an Asus S200 vivobook the other day. It's amazing. It's only 12" but it's aluminium, touch screen, core i3, 4GB RAM etc. and £399. Anybody considering a cheap laptop I highly recommend at least having a play with one.

I thought that was the case, the macbook just seem so much better integrated with software and hardware, much more smoother than my current windows experience.

I did have a play with the S200 but found that the Dell gave better value probably compromising on looks. I got the dell 15", i3, 1TB hdd, 4Gb, for £320 or so.

You get what you pay for I suppose, the MacBooks are triple the cost of that Dell.

Windows 8 works really nicely with the touch screen on that Asus which is why I mentioned it. The trackpad was a bit average, though.
