Dell turbo boost? Or something.....

Not sure if this is a Dell question or a CPU question.

Anyway, long story short...

Friend got Dell i7 laptop and I saw a little 'widget' in the corner that showed it boosting up to 3.0ghz when it was doing stuff, I then put a new version of windows on.

Soooo, I was wondering, does the boosting only happen with the right software installed or do i7s automatically do that?

Its automatic, called turbo boost, google is your friend

Its automatic, you can use realtemp to see if it in action. Also the intel widget can be downloaded from intels site.
