Hi,

I have just bought one of these to replace my aging Viewsonic VX922 and I'm not 100% convinced by it.

The monitor looks nice and the stand is fantastic.

I was expecting amazing things going from a TN to an IPS but to be honest it doesn't look much different to me.

My mant concern is the speed. I know it is 8mS compared with my old screen which was 2mS but I read a lot here saying that numbers have to be taken with a pinch of salt and in reality blurring in games on the U2311 is minimal. I'm not a real pixel watcher so didn't expect to notice anything.

Anyway, not got that far yet, but what I have noticed straight awy is that it can't handle windows being moved around on the screen as well as my viewsonic.

On the viewsonic, if I picked up a window on the desktop, I could move it from side to side as fast as I wanted. But with the U2311, even when moving slowly and smoothly I can see the vertical edges of the window breaking up as they are redrawn.

Is this what I should be expecting?

Is it a monitor limitation, my graphics card or windows setup.

My graphics card is a 4890 with 1GB RAM. Before it was driving 1280x1024@60, now it is driving 1920x1080@60 both 32bit colour.

What do you think - I would have thought my graphics card would be up to that.

Cheers,

Nigel

My error. I had switched to an all black background to check for light bleed.

When I swittched back to my normal desk top I inadvertantly selected the high contrast version rather than the aero version.

With the aero version selected, everything is smooth once more.

Cheers,

Nigel

I wasn't quite sure of what to say to you as I didn't notice this kind of issue myself and thought I should perhaps double check ;). How are you finding it overall?

Overall I like the monitor.

I love the build, the aesthetics and the stand.

I don't particular like the glossy black and perpex TV look on my desk, so the matt minimal rectangle is excellent for my needs.

I love the stand - holds the monitor absolutely solid and love the way that you can grasp the monitor at the sides and move it to whatever position and height you want.

As for the screen. I wouldn't say I was wowed like others have said. Whether this is because my previous monitor is a good example of TN or my needs\eyesight are just not that sensitive to the difference.

The size is nice - my son has the same Viewsonic as my previous monitor and when I look at that now it looks very weird and I don't like it as much.

DVDs look rubbish on the Dell though. Don't think this that fault of the Dell, but looking at a DVD scaled to 1920x1080 less than 1m away you can certainly see the limits of the DVD resolution. Maybe, now is time to invest in a Bluray Drive for my PC.

Cheers,

Nigel
