DELL u2311h monitor, for designing? anybody use it for print?
Anyone calibrate this monitor successfully FOR print ie GRAPHIC DESIGN USE??

the U2311H is still capable of offering you decent colour accuracy, colour temp and gamma out of the box.... “ -it had pretty good reviews........

For graphic designers the challenge to achieve from screen to print is far more challenging as you will be viewing on an RGB screen, but generally producing print using a CMYK process.
Can i improve the monitor for colour accuracy? HOW?
surely after proper correct calibration with software ie eye one.., it will be
improved, not just for gaming.
or should i simply get the 2209wa?

The Dell should be fine for graphic design. There are much better monitors out there but the 5-6 x cost increase doesn't translate into a 5-6x increase in image quality. I still work on the original Mac 24" aluminum display professionally, designing and retouching on projects which are used in national press, magazines and TV.

I would get a good quality hardware calibrator and use that to set the monitor up correctly for print, the software package that comes with it should guide you as to the correct colour temperature etc that is relevant to print. tftcentral.co.uk have some reviews and guides that may help you out, (I use a Gretag i1).

Once you've done that you'll need to set the applications up correctly. I'm assuming that you are going to use the Adobe Creative Suite? If so, first of all go into Bridge>edit>creative suite colour settings (cmd shift k), click the radio button at the bottom right "show expanded list..." and set it to european pre-press 2.

A lot of printers have recently asked for Coated FOGRA39 as a four colour preset so I've then gone into illustrator, shop and indesign's individual colour settings and set CMYK to that.

Lastly, choose your colours from the pantone book and never on screen, solid coated for specials and solid to process EC for four colour versions of the solids. If something is 100% colour critical, always get a colour accurate proof done and get it signed off by the client before it goes to press.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I agree there are better monitors x5, x6 extra in cost. IMHO the Dell u2311h is sensationally good value for money..... at least the colorimeter is going to be consistent, must get one soon.!
