Hi Guys,

I've recently become an owner of a brand new Dell Ultrasharp U2311H (Rev A02 March 2011). I love the screen in general, colours and image quality are amazing but there's distinct backlight bleeding in the lower left-hand corner, plus some in the top right-hand and lower right-hand corner. The latter two are not an issue but the first one seems a bit excessive. Should I return it as faulty and ask for a replacement or is this level of bleeding normal for this type of monitor (in which case I'll return it under the "cool off" rule).
Thanks in advance.

Here's a link to how it looks like in a dark room (bleeding is visible in a not-so-dark room too). The image looks pretty much similar to what I see with naked eye.

I don't have the monitor, however have heard that IPS monitors do exhibit a certain "glow"... it's difficult to tell from that image... if you're unhappy with it though contact dell and try and get it replaced.. rumour is the longer you wait to contact them for a replacement, the more likely you are to recieve a refurb, rather than new... could be bull though..

The U2311H is notoriously variable (and generally not too great) when it comes to luminance uniformity. IPS glow is not clearly exhibited in the photograph you show (and kodus for getting the exposure just about right for the picture!) but the orange hue that is greatest in the bottom left corner appears a classical example of excess backlight bleed-through. I haven't tested a single U2311H that doesn't exhibit this to some degree, and I have tested many, but you could probably get a replacement which is superior in this regard if it bothers you.

Take a look at this thread for some useful comparisons.

I would contact Dell direct and see what they think, Allthough your link is broken so I can't view it.
