Dell U2311H connectivity

I'm thinking I'm purchasing this monitor today to connect to my notebook. The notebook has HDMI and VGA out. I'd prefer to connect it to the Dell via the HDMI from the notebook. What is the best way to do this?

The best way is to use a cable like this.

If you already have a HDMI cable, then this adapter would be the best option.

BTW, really nice monitor - i'm sure you will like it

Thanks for the quick reply. I just needed to be reassured I could easily connect the notebook. HDMI cable and monitor ordered.

DVI and HDMI use essentially the same digital video signal so no conversion is needed, just a different connector at the ends of a cable/adapter. The main difference is that HDMI carries audio.

Problems only arise when you're trying to go from DisplayPort to HDMI (or the reverse) as there is a difference despite both being digital. You generally have a to get active adapters which cost a lot, annoyingly.

you'll be fine with HDMI > DVI for example. but don't forget to calibrate the screen once you're set up
