Hey,

I just bought a second Dell U2412M to accompany my existing U2412M which is about a year old. But, I have noticed that the new panel has a much warmer tint to it, the old panel seems a lot colder. I have read that this is a common occurrence in the newer panel revisions.

I've tried playing around with custom colour profiles etc etc but it seems like I'll never really match the two due to the panels being fundamentally different. I'm not really sure where this leaves me? Should I just accept that the panels have changed and deal with the difference OR get my money back and try something else?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

can you not get them looking the same with adjustments to the RGB levels? i don't believe the actual panels have changed, but preset colour levels within the factory menu could well have. but you should be able to get them matching via calibration of some degree. maybe try the tests at lagom.nl as well

I spent some time last night manually adjusting the colour values on both panels, it was hit and miss, ultimately the whites were still warmer on the new panel. I haven't tried the stuff at lagom yet. I'm loathed to spend hours if it isn't actually possible to match them.

You can see what I am talking about here:

it might be that you'd need a calibration device to correct that at a graphics card level perhaps, although often you can correct white levels through RGB OSD adjustments. a bit hard to know if you'll have any luck in this instance though

OK, thanks, I'll try using nvidia control panel tonight.

Out of interest, does anyone know why some panels appear warmer than others? Is it dues to manufacturing techniques, materials used etc?

Well, after playing around with the nvidia colour settings last, I've decided to return the monitor for a refund. There is no way in a month of Sundays that they were ever going to match. There is a fundamental difference between the panels, I don't know what it is, but I know that it can't be fixed via calibration.

I'm not really sure where that leaves me now however. I'm thinking maybe to buy from Overclockers and asking them to check and see if they have a panel without the warm tint. It may be that all of newer revision panels are the same though.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

Cheers,

K
