Dell U2515 and HDMI connection?

I just ordered one of these monitors and it occurred to me that I should have checked that I can connect it to my video card first! I just assumed I could use HDMI or DVI.

My GTX650 card has 1 x HDMI mini, 2 x DVI-D and 1 x VGA port.

I checked the manual on the Dell website and the monitor does appear to have 2 HDMI ports, but they're both listed as MHL ports for mobile devices and the max resolution on these ports is below the native resolution.

The manual also shows two illustrations. One that shows a connection with a HDMI cable (HDMI -> HDMI) and another that shows a HDMI (MHL) connection. Which to me suggests it has both a HDMI and a MHL port.

I'm now very confused. Am I going to have to buy a new video card just to run this monitor at 2560 x 1440/60hz?

Can't comment on your graphic card. As far as the monitor goes, I am ruuning it at native resolution on the HDMI port (connected to the HDMI port of a Macbook).

As Giev has said the monitor will run at native resolution over HDMI so it all depends on your graphics card. Someone will correct me I 'm sure but I think resolutions above 1080p for HDMI was introduced from 1.4 upwards but is card specific. The newer cards like the GTX 970/980 definitely support 1440p and above with HDMI 2.0.

I recently bought the 27 inch version of this monitor and my card an old GTX 570 only supports 1080p over HDMI so would not be usable. Luckily it also has a display port which does run at 1440p/60Hz.

Thanks. I decided to upgrade my video card in the end and used the DisplayPort. My GTX 650 was getting a bit old.

This display looks stunning at full native resolution!
