Dell U2711 Broken on Arrival

I order the Dell U2711 and it arrived today. I connected a single DVI cable from the monitor to my Nvidia GTX 295 graphics card and when I turned the monitor on the only thing that would come on were the backlight and the blue control LED's on the side. The button sounds worked as well but there was no OSD or image coming from my graphics card. I switched a few cables around and still nothing!

Has this problem been heard of before with this monitor? I am now in the process of returning it and wondering if to get a replacement or wait for something else!

Make sure you use the DVI cable that came with it, I seem to remember it requires a dual-link cable to work properly and if you're using your old cable it might not be up to spec.

Might not be the problem but worth a try.

I tried the dual link cable in both the first and second DVI port of the monitor and my graphics card and still nothing. Surely even a no signal message would appear or the OSD!! But even these messages were not working.

From the U2410 faq:

* All Menu buttons may not light up - Only the lights next to the buttons that have active selections will be lit. Not all menu sections have enough options to utilize all buttons so those that are not active will not be lit. This is working as designed

* Buttons not working - You (accidentally) or someone at the factory has put the U2410 in locked mode. To lock/unlock, press and hold the Exit button (the button directly above the power button) for 15 seconds. You should now be able to access the menus using the buttons

Self-Test
Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:

Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove both Digital (white connector) and the Analog (blue connector) cables from the back of computer.
Turn on the monitor.
The floating dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains blue. Also, depending upon the selected input, one of the dialogs shown below will continuously scroll through the screen.......................

Built-in Diagnostics
Your monitor has a built-in diagnostic tool that helps you determine if the screen abnormality you are experiencing is an inherent problem with your monitor, or with your computer and video card.

NOTE: You can run the built-in diagnostics only when the video cable is unplugged and the monitor is in self-test mode.

To run the built-in diagnostics:

Ensure that the screen is clean (no dust particles on the surface of the screen).
Unplug the video cable(s) from the back of the computer or monitor. The monitor then goes into the self-test mode.
On the front panel, touch and hold the button 1 and button 4 keys on the front panel, simultaneously for 2 seconds. A gray screen appears...............................................................

I'm not even getting a no signal message! I doubt plugging it into a different PC would help. In any case if the thing works on another PC but not my main computer it's pointless for my needs :D

yes but might tell you if it's your graphics card or the monitor, just a case of elimination.

With my U2410 I have to switch the monitor on first (before PC) or it wont register a signal. Really annoying. Could be that?

Both my other monitors work so I doubt that's the case. I got it from competitor cuz it was a bit cheaper than OCUK. I ran the diagnostic tests and nothing came up so I'm assuming it is faulty and i've done everything to test it. Returning it for a replacement on Monday.

no i purchased a new one and got saturday delivery. Had I waited for the RMA to complete I would have got a replacement in 10 days time. That's too long to wait for something that shouldn't have arrived broken. After all it's a £1000 monitor not a crappy 80 quid one.
