I will be mainly gaming with The Witcher 2, BF3 and Skyrim

I will have ATI 6970 xfire

Which would you go for?

Dell U2711 or wait for the Samsung SA950?

U2711 has 2560x1440 which is really tempting along with IPS panel

SA950 has 120hz and possibility of 3D with AMD GPUs

SA950 would probably have a better response time as typical of 120hz monitors, especially when comparing it to IPS monitors. Response time is important for gaming, especially if you game competitively.

However I would prefer the u2711 in every other aspect because of the higher resolution, higher dot pitch, higher gamut, pretty much higher everything else. I also don't care for 3D

edit: Considering the games you've stated interest in, I'd go with the u2711, it's just a brilliant monitor and the games will look better, you won't really give a **** about response time on Witcher 2/Skyrim, or BF3 unless you take your online FPS games seriously.

I would wait for the SA850 myself and see if it gives the U2711H a run for its money. The promise of a 'better' screen coating is itself a very promising feature and if the rest of the monitor can deliver a good experience and the pricing isn't ridiculous it could give the competition that sector needs.

TBH two completely different monitors, like someone else said if you want to give yourself options wait for the SA850,

you cannot compare the SA950 and the dell, one is used for things like design/photography etc but would be a good quality gaming monitor coz of the res etc as long as the lag and response times are reasonable, but the sammy is a 27" 120hz 3D gaming monitor

so they are not even closely related

well if the dell u2311h is anything to go by then go for it cos my 23" dell is amazing :D

totally agree:D (you fence sitting git i hear u say lol)

I almost went for the U2711 until i stumbled accross the sammy and the Hazro!!

the sammys are due out anytime now, so for me its worth the wait,

on a plus side, if yu wait you might find the Dell comes up on a discount, as its not a cheap option !

its always hard waiting, as how long do you wait for the right screen!( thats not a question:rolleyes:)

The Samsung. Dell U2711 is no gaming monitor and driving 2560x1440 is really heavy and you dont need that amount of pixels in games. I am pretty sure the gaming experience on the samsung will be better.

Never said they were related. Just wondered which one you would prefer for those games. I'm interested in both ips/pls and 120hz/3d and wondered if you had the money which would you get or wait for.
Might wait to see how the witcher 2 performs at both 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 and make a decision then and maybe just maybe we might have some info on the SA series by then?

hi

yeh sorry was not meaning you as in YOU:D, just a generalisation lol

i personally think the SA950 will be a good monitor, and thats what im waiting for, the only downside is them corrots in the shape of ACER who are just about to release theyre 27" 3D monitor onto the uk market!!! as in any day

:) ha ha apologies was not thinking, just wanted to point out its almost available
as i think ive said you can wait an eternity for new things to come along, but in the case of 27" 3D monitors i think anyone wanting one should eait till least end of may to see what choices we have

That new acer looks interesting, does it use Nvidia 3d or is it compatible with amd gpus? Also does it have 2d to 3d conversion? I'd have a look but I'm on ma mobile

It doesn't sound as if the Acer is all that you would want it to be, at least according to information in a certain review. User feedback is generally quite positive but it is going to be an expensive piece of kit (£550+) and part of the price you are paying is for the built in 3D Vision and accompanying glasses. If you run an AMD GPU and/or have no interest in 3D then it's not a wise choice. There are many reasons to wait for the upcoming Samsung monitors (especially if that review is accurate).

looks like its compatable with any GPU:D

you can use a ps3 on it , etc, for all intense purposes its a3D telly/monitor for pc's like the sammys coming out,

looks like its about £500 which i think is what the SA950 will be,

its gonna be hard tyo resist buying this, i go on holidaY week tomorrow, need to hold off:cool:

It is a 3D Vision system but includes HDMI 1.4a which allows Nvidia 3DTV Play to be used - that isn't equivilent to the 120Hz active shutter technology used in the upcoming Samsungs which can be used without bounds regardless of GPU. If you want some ammunition to help you 'hold off' do check the above links out ;).

Any concrete release date on these acers? It's hard to resist the look of the sa950 though, its a real head turner

Acer's PR company has hinted at a mid-May release. Not sure how concrete that is though.

Judging from what the acer has to offer, I can't see it holding a torch to the Samsung and possibly both at similar pricing.....
