I'm about to buy this monitor and I can't see me being disappointed but I'd like to know how they scale at a lower res. On my current monitor if I dropped the res it looked blurry and just did not work. How does this monitor fair? Cos some games could be too demanding at 2560x1440 and would like the option to drop a res if it looks good enough.

Thanks in advance

the scaling in U2711 is better than nVidia graphics card GPU software scaling. i went from 5870 to gtx580, with the nvidia card, i forgot to turn off GPU scaling, and for the first few days, i was wondering why is everything blurry.

1080p on the monitor looks nearly as sharp as native. in fact, i would say 1080p on the U2711 is must as sharp as other 1080p native monitors at this size. (26 or 28 inches)

wuyanxu,

How did you get 1080p to scale on the u2711 monitor? The only way I can scale 1080p is by using Ati CCC. Everytime I try to put the monitor into any 16:9 resolution, I get a border at the top and bottom of the screen. But if I choose a 16:10 resolution, I it scales to the full screen without borders?

I've tried using the fill, aspect and 1:1 settings, none of them gives me 16:9 resolutions that fills the screen properly. Also tried using HDMI and Dual Link DVI, still no luck!

I heard the scaler in the u2711 is better so I've been wanting to try it.

Looking at this, scaling at 1080p is OK, but if you possibly can - run it at native res. If you feel you will be needing to run it at 1080p a lot I would suggest either investing in a beefier graphics card or dropping down to a lower res (but still high quality) monitor like the U2410.

Its been a while since i've updated my sig, i have a 6950 which is plenty for native on the u2711. But I stream a lot so playing at 1080p saves the computer from converting it to 1080p if u know what i mean. Just having the problem with the mointors scaler not filling the screen at 16:9!!! Few people having the same problems. Grrr

Hi,

I am having the same problem. My monitor is revision A04.
When i set the desktop to 1920x1080 the monitor info reports the current resolution as 1920x1200. If i set the monitor to 1:1 it looks like it is indeed 1920x1200 :s
On the desktop the image fills the whole screen. However in games the image is displayed with black bars at the top and bottom.
The reason this concerns me is that i have heard that the monitor scales better than my nvidia card, so when i want to watch a blu ray on occasion on my pc i would like to use the monitor to scale. Also there may be a time when i buy a game and i cant run it smoothly at native res and again would like the monitor to scale.
This may cause me problems in the future.

Phil.

Update:

For some reason i am not getting the black bars anymore, however the monitor is scaling all 16:9 resolutions to 16:10 except the native 2560x1440. So now i can play fullscreen @ 1080p but the picture isnt quite right.

Mine displays 16:10 resolutions perfectly fine, its just the 16:9 that it has top and bottom borders. Its a 16:9 monitor, I don't understand why it won't fill the screen!??!

I will have a beefy card but I'm just wondering if upcoming games ie the witcher 2, bf3 and Skyrim will bring modern cards to their knees at 2560x1440 and would like the option if needed to drop to 1080

I've been looking into the U2410 but people say some games won't support 16:10, can anyone confirm this?

I have a 16:10 1920x1200 monitor as my primary monitor for the past four years and I have never really had any problems. The vast majority work out-of-the-box and the few that don't are easily "fixed" (these fixes are usually for older games that don't work well with widescreen monitors, so 16:9 monitors would be just as affected).

It really is impossible to predict how these games will perform on current hardware since they use either new engines or heavily updated engines. That said, current games like Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2 play well at 2560x1440 on high/v. high settings using a GTX 580 card. Since most of the new games are also coming to consoles then I wouldn't imagine these games being much more intensive than existing console ported games on high settings.

If you are looking for a graphics card suggestion, I would go for a HD 6950 2GB for ~£200 (so long as your motherboard and PSU support crossfire). You can buy this today with your monitor and it will play modern games great, then when you feel you need some more performance buy another HD 6950 2GB (when they will be even cheaper) and get a massive performance boost. Alternatively, if your board doesn't support crossfire then I would just get a GTX 580.

Mine displays 16:10 resolutions correctly. My problem is with 16:9. The pc is outputting 16:9 but the monitor thinks its a different res ie 1920x1080 is seen as 1980x1200, 1280x720 is seen as 1280x800 etc.

I had black borders at top and bottom like you. But for some reason that has stopped happening. Instead 1920x1080 fills the whole screen as it should, but it isnt shown correctly. I think the image im seeing is a cropped 16:10 1920x1200 image.

all i've done is set graphics card to not scale at all (eg. in nvidia panel, something along line of use monitor built in scaler). i then set u2711 to use Aspect.

1080p display full screen, 4:3 have borders along each side and 16:10 have small borders to left and right.

i do have A01 model i think. bought last year October.
