Dell U3011 brightness uniformity problem

I just received the Dell U3011 from OCUK, it's an amazing looking screen, but one thing that's bugging me is that it's brighter on the right half of the screen than the left half of the screen.

Is anyone else having this problem? I'm thinking for £1250 it should be the same brightness across the whole screen?

I am not sure I can live with the difference it's quite noticable on a white background, do I send it back to the OCUK or Dell?

Thanks in advance

it's fairly common i'm afraid for the U3011. i found the same in the unit i tested here (See uniformity section). although it was not really very noticeable in day to day use. perhaps you have a more extreme case

That's terrible for such an expensive screen! I can confirm that the HP ZR30w is pretty much perfect, and doesn't suffer from said problem afaik :)

If you don't need more than DVI+Displayport for connections, I can def recommend it

If you're not happy, then I would send it back - take advantage of the Dell premium replacement guarantee.

There will always be some slight variation in backlight brightness on a screen, but on a high end panel like the U3011 it really shouldn't be noticeable in everyday use. Anyway, backlight non-uniformity tends to show up as being darker around the edges (and particularly the corners), and brighter towards the centre. The fact that you see one side as brighter than the other suggests it could be some kind of physical defect (partial backlight failure perhaps?).

Well it's VERY noticable even when just doing things on the desktop, the left side is quite a bit darker than the right side, obvious when you drag a white explorer window over you see it get brighter!

What a shame, I love this screen but I don't think I can live with that.

The only thing I am worried about if I use the Dell warranty replacement and I end up with a screen the same or worse?? will I still be able to return that screen to OCUK for a refund?

I wouldn't accept that m8, def get it refunded or replaced. I think once your 7 days are up with OcUK you won't be able to return it for refund under DSR, they obviously have to be quite strict in that regard
