Dell U3011 now or wait?

I'm considering the U3011 at the moment too. I've got a DGM VA panel at the moment which has terrible screen burn at the top showing shadows of my browser tabs. Do IPS panels suffer just as badly from this or is it not really an issue?

How do you install a custom ICC profile?

I haven't adjusted my U3011 since it arrived and was wondering how it would look with TFTCentral's settings.

Thanks.

The process of installing the ICC profiles is explained on the TFTCentral website. It's a bit involved to go into here, but not difficult. Also depends on your operating system. Be sure to adjust your brightness and contrast either before or after installing.

I have a really really strange issue with my U3011. You'll laugh at this. The menu buttons are quite funky and detect the presence of your finger before you touch it, indicated by lighting up. The buttons aren't physical mechanical switches but optical I believe. They activate when they detect a change in light level. Because of the angle I use with my right hand it won't activate, but with my left hand it works all the time. How wierd!

Will look it up on their website then. Thanks.

Regarding the buttons, that is strange. Never had any probs activating mine, even by accident. :)

I've decided to wait a little. I'm scared on splashing out over £800 and not liking the anti glare coating. Really I should go see some in store and decide for myself. I'm going to wait on the next generation of monitors if that's not too far away.

What anti glare coating?! :D With the sunshine today the anti glare coating is a godsend. Who wants to sit with the curtains/blinds closed just to see the screen? I helped a collegue at work today who's laptop had a glossy screen. Total nightmare; tilting my head this way and that. I'd take a screen like this over a glossy screen 100% of the time.

It's fair enough that you're waiting. I waited for a few years to get a 30", just because they were so expensive - they used to retail for over £1200 when they first came out (and Dell still charge that price).

Don't wait too long though. You could be reaping the benefits now rather that waiting for the next big thing, and when it does come out it'll probably be so restrictively expensive to be out of reach.

Good luck on your search!

My guess is it will be early next year at the earliest.

Considering what I paid £800 is a bargain, but you always have the DSRs to fall back on if you don't like the coating. Honestly I've never seen the issue and as above it is often a godsend, especially in sunny weather although that will depend on which way the room that the monitor is used in faces and how much sun it gets.

Yes indeed. On days like this with light streaming in from the sides or facing the screen there is going to be extremely heavy diffusion of light. Matte surfaces don't really help in such situations - you'd still want to manipulate the lighting so to speak.

The next generation 30" monitor, if you want to call it that, may well come later this year. Probably around August or September going by Dell's usual schedule. LG have a new 30" panel in production for 2012 and if anybody will use that it will be Dell.

Totally agree. The shiny screens are a blasted nuisance IMO. Utterly useless. I have a Macbook Pro now with anti-glare and its a beaut. I nearly threw my previous one (glossy) at the wall because of the glossy screen in a fit of frustration.... Is the AG on the U2711 and u3011 like the anti glare Macbook do you know? If it is I am buying one now :p
