I am hoping someone can help me.

I bought one of these monitors recently and i cannot for the life of me get a nice balance of contrast and brightness. It either looks too bright or too dull.

I have tried auto adjust and fine tuning of both brightness and contrast but nothign will help.

I did try going through the display setup of the Nvidia card but that too has not given ideal settings.

Are you using the DVI because if you do settings like contrast, sharpness and auto-adjust are unavailable (and unnecessary). I use mine through DVI on 45 brightness when gaming or watching films, and I turn the brightness down to 30-35 when using the web or applications. I also use my 360 connected to it through VGA with brightness on 45.

You should use the DVI.

Try it again, and check it's the right way up. The DVI cable that comes with the monitor should fit all video cards as far as I'm aware. It's a little fiddly to get it connected though.

I have two of these, one on a DVI connection and the other on VGA, on the DVI I have the brightness set to 30 (no contrast option), on the VGA I have brightness to 30 and contrast to 50 and I keep my monitor on these settings all the time.

OK, ive managed to connect the DVI cable, but i cannot get any picture, the screen says it is going into sleep mode as there is no signal from the computer. do i need to enable this anywhere?

Mine doesn't auto switch inputs if you've been using it in another mode. So for instance, after using my 360 through VGA, I have to manually switch back to DVI. I guess that's what's happening here.

Would be nice if it did auto switch though.

yes, ive tried manually pressing the button, i assume that there is an issue with the DVI connection on the graphics card, as soon as it gets to "2" it tells me its entering power save mode. I have also tried S video and get the same thing.

additionally if i go into the OSD > input source and scan for sources, only the VGA shows.

OK, Solved it. I powered the machine off, removed the graphics card, air dusted all the crap and dust away from the fan and re-seated. plugged in the DVI and powered on, and it worked.

Last night i had tried powering the machine down and then on again, but i had left the VGA in as well, so i basically had the VGA and the DVI connected, i assume there was not enough power for both, i left the VGA unplugged this time and hey presto.

thanks for your help guys, i just need to get the contrast etc right so i am going to go back and look at your settings that you have advise me of.

If you had both VGA and DVI connected, the video card would only be sending a signal to one, unless you manually enable dual monitor in your video card control panel, so that's why you weren't getting a picture. You just needed to do was disconnect the VGA lead.

Anyway, back to brightness, try it on 45-50 and see how that looks.

Oh well, we live and learn :), ok a happy medium for me was 43 for brightness, and it looks pretty good now, thanks again for you all help everyone
