Dell - UltraSharp U2412M

as far as im a aware that is the best screen for the money. calibrated out of the box, IPS. you can get an asus but its a fair bit more expensive

Been reading up on these korean ones - they sound ok but are around £350 inc taxes which is the same price as a 27 hazro.. ?

If you can stretch to £312 then this Hazro 27in on offer at the moment sure does look nice.

For your uses it sounds like a pretty good fit (large size, high resolution, IPS panel).

That said, if you really don't want to spend that much and don't want to take a chance on a korean import then the Dell U2412M is a great option. It is only ~£216 at the moment on OCUK, a nice 1920x1200 resolution, well made, very solid yet adjustable stand and ofcourse a lovely (and pretty accurate out of the box) image quality. I am personally using one now and it is a joy to use - plus the 3 year dell warranty gives you a lot of peace of mind when using it every day.

I am currently running one alongside a 27" iiyama. I got it for photo-work, but could not afford the 2410. It rather shocked me, tbh...All the usual IPS pro's you might expect, plus a few surprises.

Even in the dark the blacks are pretty black. DVDs play better than on the big TN. I never noticed the way the iiyama stand wobbled till I got the Dell. Games run smoothly. The ability to use portrait mode is so much more useful than I expected. No hum. That Dell dead-pixel warranty... The only query I now have is do I get another 2412, or can I justify pairing it with a 27" Dell?

The downside is that the iiyama, which I was perfectly happy with, and which had reviewed well, is going ASAP. It has, by comparison, a dull screen output, suddenly looks cheap and nasty, wobbles, and really cannot compete, though current 27" TNs seem to either cost the same or more.

I should add that I do not need the colour range of the 2410, and am not really a serious gamer, so don't need 120mhz. If that is not an issue for you, then I think it looks like the bargain of the moment.

Preest: Everything you said there sounds like the usual step up from a TN to an IPS screen :)

I've had a U2412M for 6 months or so and I'm very happy with it. Only downside is no HDMI input really.

It's fine for gaming, only the most hardcore of FPS gamers would notice any issues IMO.

Only warning I have: be careful taking it out of the box - there is some flimsy polystyrene which gave way on me - dropped it right on a guitar I'd carelessly left lying against a chair. In all fairness to the Dell - it took a good chunk out of the lacquer on the guitar, but there wasn't a scratch on the monitor :E

For under £250, there's not a better monitor right now IMO
