I mate of mine has Dell Vostro 460, and asked if it could be upgraded to make it faster

its currenlty got an i5-2500 @ 3.3ghz
4gb of ddr3 1333mhz
clockwork harddrive 500gb
nvidia quadro gpu (realy old 128mb which i supplied as temp fix when his failed)
and win 7.32 bit..

im thinking a 256GB SSD & keep the old drive for data/backup

memory do i keep the 4gb (2x2) and add another 8gb , does it have to be 1333mhz or
dump the 4gb and buy 16gb (4x4)

GPU just needs to run autocad (2d) and some survey software, dual screens
im thinking this one will do

hopefully this takes the power from the mobo, i dont want one that needs a psu connector.

and then either windows 8.1 oem or retail (if he wants the free windows 10 upgrade)

any thoughts please :)

SSD - great choice and will make an immediate impact to the system.

RAM - fast RAM can run at slower speeds to match the 1333Mhz, try and get as close to the existing RAM (voltages and timings etc) as possible. Or dump for a 8Gb kit of 1600Mhz

GFX card - it does not need external power.

Some Dells used to have different mount mechanism and the holes were in different places.

You might need to have a measure up.
