Dell Vostro 1500

Do you have the 120Gb or 160Gb HDD?

What's the rest of the spec?

Sorry, just interested :)

Jon

He must have the 100gb 7200, or the 120. I have 136gb free on my 160. Wish i had got the 7200 drive now though, the 5400 is really slow, vista dosent help matters, ill probably big vista ultimate (which is a shame since i paid £50 extra to get it) and go back to XP until they improve this, its really really slow, even clicking a IE7 page takes an age.

Ive tested WOW at 1440x900 with full eye candy on and it runs at 60fps, CSS runs at 60fps as well with antistropic on, i never tried FSAA.

I received a voicemail on my mobile today from Dell to say my Vostro 1500 is going to be delivered tomorrow morning! Well happy with that as I only ordered it last Wednesday and my predicted delivery date was 24th September! :D

those 3d marks mean nothing (btw i get roughlly the same on 20%overclock)

mydesktop system gets 11k yet can play bioshock on high at over 4 mil pixels, this vostro when overclocked can barley play it on the lowest settings with 1 mil pixels.

Well, they do mean something, you are just equating 11,000 as nearly 3x better, when its 7000 points better.

Sounds like a plan. Might try an install the Bioshock drivers over the Dell's.

Update: Uninstalled the Dell drivers, re-booted and installed the Bioshock 163.44's. Amazingly, the colour correction settings are now applied at start-up.

I'm still going to contact Dell in the morning though. The panel buzz/hum on any setting other than max is getting on my nerves.

I get no buzz/hum on any brightness setting, although i have to actually turn the brightness up a bit within control panel, i found it a little too dark even on the max setting.

Just got mine :D I'm going to reinstall vista. Do i need to format the hdd first or can i just run the cd from the desktop without formatting?

Id delete the other partition and create a single partition when you do the vista install.

To be honest you dont need to do it really, the major thing slowing down vista is macafee, you can manually uninstall the other stuff, just bin a few things and it flies along.

Business you cant, home you can. If you are a home buyer, phone up and tell them you want to return it anyway, they give you 5-10% off to keep it :)

I found the laptop so slow at first, but after removing all the dell gunk, and the anti virus software, its quite nippy now, i think the macafee anti virus that is on there was the worst offender.

Ive very happy with it, i love the look and feel of it, it feels quite strange to have a black laptop, everything is silver these days, whoever thought black would be novel again?

It feels really well put together, the lid closes with a satisfying click, the keys feel nice, it can play WOW at full detail at 1440x900, it was even able to run the GRAW 2 demo pretty decently.

Anybody else had this Mcafee problem? Removed all Mcafee software via control panel. Rebooted. Windows Security centre still thinks the AV and Firewall are working.

The tool to remove the software (from the Mcafee site) hasn't had an effect.

Cheers guys, got my os reinstalled, only 36 processes running at a time now rather than 78 when i first booted it! Posting from it now :D
Still a lot of programs i'm thinking of removing, not sure whether to get rid of all this dell stuff, what did you guys do?
