Hi,
I currently have a Vostro 200 which I am rebuilding (it currently has no HDD in it). It has a Foxconn G33M02 motherboard, and a Core 2 Duo 3GHz processor.
It currently has 3GB DDR2 RAM, and POSTs fine, until of course it prompts that there is no HDD. This consists of:
1GB slot 1 (Samsung 1GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300U-555-12-E3)
512MB slot 2 (Samsung 512MB 1Rx16 PC2-5300U-555-12-C3)
1GB slot 3 (Samsung 1GB 2Rx8 PC2-5300U-555-12-E3)
512MB slot 4 (Samsung 512MB 1Rx16 PC2-5300U-555-12-C3).
I have tried to upgrade to 4GB by swapping the 512MB modules for 1GB modules (Hynix 1GB 1Rx8 PC2-5300U-555-12), however whilst the machine only sounds a single beep, it will not progress past the initial BIOS screen, and the machine locks up without letting me enter setup by pressing F2.
If I remove all existing memory and place the new modules in slots 1 and 3, the machine appears to work fine, so there appears to be some sort of incompatibility between the Samsung and Hynix 1GB modules.
The installed BIOS is 1.0.13.
What do you recommend as a next step?
