What is the difference between the two?

I could get 3x 28" Hanns.G for the price of one dell.

Please tell me your opinions regarding whats the difference from a gaming perspective aswell

I assume you're talking about the Hanns.G HZ281HPB and the Dell UltraSharp U2711.

Dell has a resolution of 2560x1440 and 178/178 viewing angles.

Hanns G has a 1920x1200 and 170/160 viewing angles.

From what I hear from the many people on the forums with large Hanns G monitors is that they are pretty good (for the price).

They are massive and the image quality is not bad considering the size and price.

However, comparing it to a 30in Dell is not a fair comparison. In terms of image quality and viewing angles the Dell will walk all over it. However, for fast paced gaming the TN panel of the HannsG will be more responsive than the Dell (we still need to see some reviews of the new Dell 30in, but this is generally the case with IPS panels and the clever scaling system dell usually puts in place).

If you do go for 3x28in monitors then make sure your graphics cards (yes, plural) are top end, as 5670x1200 resolution is going to push their graphical power to the limit during games.

but I heard the colours are poor and doesn't look good in games?

Is it true?

I have heard quite the opposite. Lots of people on here have a Hanns. G, and seem very happy. Yes, it does need a little bit of colour tweaking as far as I can tell, but it seems very good.

Go and check out the Hanns. G thread mate. Plenty happy people there. I should also be joining them soon.

Different panels (even if they are the same model) are slightly different (especially 'budget panels') so it may not be the best idea to try to copy somebody else's settings. You are never going to get colours as accurate, brilliant or varied as the Dell U2711 due to the inherent differences in the panel technology between the two. What you can do quite easily, however, is to adjust the colour balance using the menus in the monitor itself or using the Windows 7 calibration tool (if you use this OS) so that it looks right to you. It is important that you are happy with the colours not that they are super accurate - you aren't going to achieve the latter with this panel, but you may achieve the former.

Thanks for that.

do these hanns g provide a good resolution as I am now really considering getting one?

The resolution is pretty good (1920x1200), but they are big monitors for this resolution - so the pixels are a bit on the large size.

Whether this is a problem is determined by how far away you sit from the monitor, how good your eyesight is and what you are used to.

Well the "standard" size for a 1920x1200 monitor is 24in - most people find the dot pitch (pixel size) of this pretty great. I believe the same dot pitch is used on 22in 1680x1050 monitors.

Whether 1920x1200 is "poor" for a 28in is a difficult question to answer. As I state above, there are many factors that affect how it will look to you and the many people that have that monitor seem to be happy with it.

I myself have a 27in 1920x1200 monitor (I upgraded from a 1920x1200 24in) and I find the viewing experience much better. Text is easier to read and I find games and movies more immersive.

As far as I know, everyone who owns the Hanns. G is very happy with it. I myself am considering one. You might be best asking in the Hanns. G thread, as a lot of owners have posted there. Have a good read of it. Tweaking the colours isn't too difficult, and like PCM2 said, you can use the controls on the monitor, and/or the Windows 7 calibration tool. There is also a website which has images that you can use to calibrate your screen.

I would strongly suggest against relying on the integrated speakers. Without fail the integrated speakers on monitors are poor.

If you spend just £20 on a logitech/creative 2.1 set then you will get sound quality far in advance of what the integrated speakers can produce.

According to the product page the monitor comes with 1 DVI, 1 HDMI and 1 Analogue (presumably VGA D-Sub).

Just throw my hat in the ring regarding res Vs screen size

I have a 27" dell 1920 x 1200 and the pixel size is fine ( could not see 1 extra inch making that much of a difference)

I have also a 24 @ 1920x1200 and a 26" @ 1920x1200

Think the pixel size should be fine and they wont look too big

No, it's rubbish. This is a fantastic monitor and is brilliant for gaming. In fact that's the main use for mine. The colours are very good and the screen size is awesome. I upgraded from a Belinea 10 19 27 (19" 1280x1024) which was one of the best gaming monitors that you could buy when i got it and the colours on the HannsG easily matches the Belinea.

Is tweaking hard and do you know the correct settings for the fixed colour?

Tweaking is not hard. It's far too bright out of the box but a couple of minutes spent in the menu soon sorts that out. For setting up the colours i used this, It's simple to use and takes no more than ten minutes.

Forget about onboard speakers. Most monitors have extremely poor built in speakers that are easily outperformed by even a cheap set of external speakers. Anyway, a monitor this size deserves a decent set of 5.1 speakers to compliment it.
