I'm looking at the new ones due out later this month, the 9350 Skylakes. Has any got one of the current 9343 models, how are you finding them?

just ordered a 4k skylake XPS 15 9550 instead of almost going for the MSI gs60 6qe as battery life is an important factor and for around the same price, in the XPS I got a smaller chassis thanks to that tiny bezel, got 4k vs FHD of the msi which I was in 2 minds about but I'm not game heavy, the extra pixels will be useful for all the desktop tasks is going to be used for (photo editing, reports, etc) and a pure .5TB m.2 SSD vs 128gb + 1TB of the MSI (which isn't a great config in my opinion). same 6700hq and 16gb DDR4 but sadly a 960m instead of the 970m, which will be noticeable in games, just need it delivering now! well report on it when it arrives.

I've been happy with my current generation XPS 13 (i7-5600U infinity display).

I wouldn't want to use it all of the time (for that I've got a desktop with three 24" displays for that), but for something pretty and portable it's great.

There are occasional issues with the display resolution and getting the scaling correct, but it isn't a major issue.

Please let me know what your thoughts are, I'm looking at the new xps15 also for the same reasons, plus touch screen.

I've got a one of the new 4k i7 Skylake's XPS13's arriving next week after a bit of a delay. Ordered due to the generally stellar reviews / feedback from the previous gen and changing up my 13" HP elitebook.

I had one for a few weeks :) I had the higher resolution model and sadly had to get rid of it because windows scaling ruined the experience for me. The laptop build/power/battery and functionality were all however next to none :)

They've just hiked the price of the XPS 15 by £100, was £1799 for the 1TB model on release now £1899, and Mr Dell had the audacity to call out Microsoft for the price of their new devices.......

That's what I'm looking to get. Has it arrived, how are you finding it?

It arrived a few days ago and not had much time to play with it yet.

Very initial impressions are it's quick, 700+mb read on the ssd, screen is glorious (no issues for me with W10 scaling), so thin and light that it made my older HP ultra book + extended battery seem massive / heavy, battery life seems stellar. Thankfully not preloaded with tons of crap as well but it did ask if i want to download my entitled software from the internet but i declined.

The negative thing, i hate the mouse pad it's honestly awful imo. It doesn't lend it's to a fast workflow because the mouse buttons are integrated into it and it's overly big. This means for me it makes it hard use two hands with it for movement and clicking. I probably need to adapt but my old HP and separate (two sets infact) mouse buttons is far superior.

It's a penalty of such a thin ultra book but having to carry around a USB C hub with integrated LAN connection and some additional ports USB3 ports is a pain. Using a usb wireless mouse (to avoid the above issue) takes one of the two USB3 ports on it, connect up a phone to charge on the go and there is nothing spare. I had to invest in a W10 compatible fingerprint reader for biometric security as it doesn't have one built in which is poor imo. That also takes a USB port so something has to give.

As i said early days yet, it is good but there are some compromises to having such a small neat package just depends if you can live with them.

I want the size so not too bothered about some limitations. Which model did you get?

Just to add i'm finding i actually like using the touch screen for some tasks as well which i didn't think i would :). Normally i would have loaded Classic Shell on the GUI but finding W10 plus the touch display quite pleasant so for now it's being left as is.

I've got build quality issues with my broadwell version - it's an i7 5500u/8GB/3k screen version.

Had the 3k display replaced due to uniformity issues and the replacement whilst better still has an uneven backlight.

Going to send it back again due to a bulge above the trackpad and a slanting space bar. Also have a rattle to the trackpad which is very common. Plus it has an ancient Samsung M2 SSD which is a little on the slow side.

Trackpad is one of the better Windows trackpads I've used, smooth and responsive, but Windows 10 doesn't have back/forwards gesture support which is a total pain.

Can't say I've ever found a use for the touchscreen, and the battery life is totally oversold, mine gets around 6 hours of light use I reckon.

Interesting that you have issues with the track pad. I think the oversized one on my Spectre x360 is one of its best features, and the reason that I haven't got round to buying a mouse for it.

Probably just personal preference in the end but yeah i don't like it. By itself the trackpad is fantastic just the intergrated buttons make it awful to use for me.

Each time i go to click i generally end up somewhere other than intended. If i use a single hand for clicks and movement it certainly works better but slows things down.

Really do wish they'd included physical buttons on the damn thing (typing on it right now).
