i have seen a dell xps 710 case on ebay that i have thought about modding

i know they are pretty big so it would be ideal for the components i already have

it comes with the stock 750w psu which i assume would be enough to power my plan to upgrade my gfx to sli

the mod would be fairly simple
side windows/paint job/etc

is there any owners who know what connectors come on the stock psu?

i heard the psu is bigger than a standard psu - is this true?

would it be suitable?

From memory without checking I think you get:

6 x SATA and 2 x Molex 1 x FDD
2 x 6-pin PCIe
I think the ATX power cable is standard, but I think the CPU power cable is non-standard (I think it's got 10 or 12 pins).

I seem to remember the PSU is slightly bigger than standard - I think a similar size to the 850W Enermax Galaxy but not as big as the 1000W Galaxy.

Hope this is some help.

I just read..

Dell XPS 710 Review

Our system was outfitted with the 1,000 watt PSU and it’s certainly an impressive unit: the PSU ships with four PCI Express power connectors for graphics cards. As a result, this is one of the few PSUs on the market that should have no problems working with dual GeForce 8800 GTX cards running in SLI mode (one of NVIDIA’s requirements for GeForce 8800 GTX SLI operation is that the PSU has all four power connectors built-in, using the PCIe power adapters that are so popular nowadays can lead to stability issues when the cards are under load in SLI). The PSU is also designed to deliver high power on the 12V rails, which are used predominantly by the CPU and GPU nowadays, according to the PSU’s specs up to 950W are available on the 12V rails, and 150W on the 3.3V and 5V rails.

Maybe they fit different PSUs according to what hardware you order at the time.

thats cool
the one i was looking at was the 750w psu

i assume it can support sli or it wouldnt be in an xps

im pretty positive about it - i just dont really want to spend £100 on something that may turn out to be useless

Do you know the exact spec this machine comes with?

Is it SLI already or?

A decent 750 watt PSU will run SLI. (but this is a DELL)

Forget most of the above....I just realised your only buying case and PSU :(

yeah thats what i was thinking
was just gonna replace it with my 600w ocz
but was worried it may not fit if the stock pssu it bigger than standard size

I looked at these and the Psu will not power a non-dell mobo as they have a weird cpu connector you might be able to hack a normal connector onto it if you knew the pin outs though

Why don't you ask the seller what sort of PSU it is?

I know some DELLs use there own proprietary PSUs, so be carefull.

i thought that the psu would have one of those daft dell connectors on
i may buy it for the case then use my psu

if the psu is too small to be mounted im sure i can make a cage from bits of old cases

thanks for all the help guys - much appreciated
