Dell XPS line - refresh imminent?

yeh, if i were you, id look out for a good M1330 on the outlet and snap it up especially if your going to be running xp. Also there are bound to be plenty of guides and info on getting XP up and running on the 1330 compared to the new studio xps. Have you considered any other makes? HP etc etc

I have XP Pro running on mine and the only problem I have with it is the Card Reader. I just can't get it to read SD cards. I've tried various Ricoh drivers and still no luck. It worked fine before with Vista Business.

Was having a look around the High Street today and managed to find a shop with an XPS M1330 on display.

I swear they sculpt them out of angels. It's a gorgeous looking machine, I think I was being watched closely to make sure I didn't drool all over it!

Rather than change the design, why didn't Dell just upgrade it? Now i'm wondering whether I should just "take my chances" with a GF 8M series GPU.

I have had my M1330 for over a year now running XP and I have loved it. My warranty ran out in January... Yesterday my graphic card started to fail :(

fendi... I never had any problems with SD cards in windows XP.

Would you recommend not getting the current M1330 then?

No I am not saying no, but its a hard one. I loved it... specs are good, its small and looks really good. Best looking laptop I have had. It's the Nvidia card that you have to worry about. The later ones might have different 8400's in them, I don't know. If you get a 3 year warranty then you have less to worry about.

I think, I have got mine working again.... It might have been some compatibility problem with a new video bios that is supposed to help the problem. I installed vista (Been using XP) and it seems to be ok. If it is ok I will pass it on to someone else. I have just got a Precision M6400, which is completely different from a M1330 :)

Thanks for that crazyswede, now I just have to figure out why mine doesn't work. I've got SP3 installed too. Humm.

It is a pain because I wanted to stick a 16gig SD card in the reader to hold music/photos. I think after work i'll see if I can find something on the net that might help me get it working again.

I have a 8400 GS and luckily have had no problems. I didn't realise there were problems until reading about it recently. I've still got two more years business next day onsite warranty that is great so hopefully Dell will cover me if anything happens to the card.
