Girlfriend just joining the XPS ranks!
Bought JediFragger's laptop

T8100
2GB RAM
250GB HDD
8600M GT 256mb
Vista Home

£490 and its a few weeks old! Best be good!

I think I might have something in my system that is holding back all the power that I should be enjoying.

I currently have the T9300 2.5 Penrym, 4GB Ram (Corsair), Vista Ultimate 64-bit, 250gb HDD, Geforce 8600M GT.

When I ran the 3D Mark 06 test, I was very surprised to only get 4,673!

Is there any reason why its this low for such a decently powered system?

How quick are Dell with delivery? I'm annoyed as you pay £60 for delivery and they've estimated a delivery date of the 15th May, AGEEEESSSSS away!!!! :(

Well mine took 5 days from placing the order until delivery, although my estimated delivery date was 10th May (it arrived yesterday).

Im looking at ordering a 1530 now. Quick question... which LCD? Is it worth going for the higher res WXGA+ or WUXGA on a 15" screen or just stick with the standard WXGA 1280x800?

Thanks

1400*900 is best on a 15inch although some will debate that 1680 *1050 is good. However , on a desktop 140**900 is norm for 19inch and 1680*1050 is norm for 22inch. So i would say 1680*1050 is too large for a 15inch screen imo, text would look very small.

However, iirc you can only get 1280*800 or 1900*1200 via the home site. You can only choose intermediaries on business site.

You can't really compare to a desktop as you sit much closer to the screen on a laptop.

I had 1680x1050 on a 1530 for 2 weeks and found it was just right. Only thing is if you use the trackpad you have to set the pointer speed to max to be able to get from one side to the other in one swipe.

Not a problem for me as I always have mouse and trackpad speeds on max but if you don't and find it annoying having to lift your finger of 2-3 times to get across the screen it's something to think about.

I did use the 1530 for work and I usually need 2 to 3 windoiws open side by side, even with an external monitor connected. For that the high res is valuable.

But when back home and only web browsing the extra res doesn't make much of a difference. Some web pages stretch out and fill the screen and some leave wide borders down each side. But the extra vertical res from 800/900 to 1050 means a bit less scrolling.

Sup guys

If I ordered the following;

T8100 or T8300
2GB RAM
250GB HD
8600M GT
1440*900 LCD
9 Cell Battery

How much battery life could I expect? It's really critical as I'd love it to run for a school day without having to recharge it ...

cheers

Well, mine is the same but 6-cell, and I get ~3 - 3.5 hours on battery using power saver mode (with Aero and sidebar etc turned off in Vista).

Hey guys,

Has anyone got the details of a Dell rep thats willing to do a decent deal??

Im pretty good at haggling and I've been ringing all morning but none of them are willing to budge, its starting to wind me up.. lol

Thanks

Ricky

I think you'll get a good deal when there are vouchers floating about - for example I got £150 off mine, then 10% and then 5% quidco cashback. If there are no current vouchers, there probably won't be any deals to be had.

Check out hotukdeals.com and search for DELL or look for posts by user MikeT.

If the codes are out of date, and there are none on that site, then you're outta luck. Dell generally give out codes every couple of weeks, so during those weeks you'll get a discount. Otherwise you won't! You'd be best waiting for codes or searching that site, quite often things that popup (including misprices occasionally!).

Hi all,

I just received my X1530 yesterday with the following spec

T8300
2GB RAM
320GB HD
8600M GT
1440*900 screen

After reading this and other forums about the differing screens. ie 1280*800 screen having poor view angles and the Samsung 1680*1050 screen being very grainy etc. I decided on the 1440*900 screen.

I hear some 1440 screens are poor unless its the LG screen which is said to be very nice and brighter. I havn't had much time to play with the laptop but my first impressions of the screen arn't bad. It does look to have bleeding along the bottom of the screen tho and the view angle isn't much to write home about.

I just wondered how do I check if it is an LG screen or not?

I have looked at the devices page and the monitor is only listed as Generic monitor.

Any ideas how to check?

Many thanks

Deks
