Hi all

I've been given the task of repairing a freinds Dell Inspiron 1300 which had suffered a severe virus attack, and now needs re-installing the OS.

I came across an article about DSRFix http://www.goodells.net/dellrestore/fixes.htm while looking for a solution to the ctl+F11 Dell restore function which is not working also

I've run dsrfix and a couple of 'alerts' were reapired
(see screenshot here http://img206.imagevenue.com/view.php?image=54627_DSC00140_122_531lo.JPG)

When I then try to boot off the recovery utility with ctl+F11, it looks like it's still trying to access the C: drive/partition as it comes up with \system32\hal.dll missing or corrupt error!!

Anyone used dsrfix have any ideas how this can be corrected?

Many thanks if you can help me out, I'd really appreciate it

When it boots is there a screen that comes up with a blue bar at the top?

If that doesn't come up then there is no recovery sector at all.

Also if your pressing it at the wrong time it wont work. My advice is to hold down crtl and keep pressing f11 this might work.

Thanks for the reply teaboy ;)

I've actually just found reference from more searching on it about hitting ctl-F11 just at the point of seeing the blue bar with www.dell.com on it - AND NOT BEFORE ......I was hitting it when the main Dell Splash Screen appears almost immediately

N'mind, all's well now and the OS has restored fine.

Thanks for taking the time to try and help out :)

Cheers

Moggsy
