Demo site - block access and Google?

I'm developing a new site on another domain that I own, it uses the same content from my main site so I'd like to block Google so I dont get punished for duplicated content. Whats the easiest way to do this with Wordpress?

Also, can I somehow password protect the site so that only I can see it? Its unlikely anyone would stumble accross it but as its just a test site no one needs to see it bar me.

If you have access to control the hosting yourself, you can setup password protection on the directory itself pretty easily through CPanel or whatever.

But, honestly, if it's just a test site why stick it on the internet at all? Just host it locally using ddev or xampp.
