James Bond Thread (Denis Villeneuve to direct Bond 26)

Arrival says hello....
I did like Arrival....but it always feels like the people themselves in his films take a back seat to the visuals. I do like his films....but I do wonder a bit what a Bond film is going be like......lots of moody scenes of Bond staring into the distance in some over-saturated monochromatic cityscape or other :)

The best Bond films have a little whimsy and a light-hearted side to the protagonist. I can't help but feel that Villeneuve bond is going to be VERY VERY SERIOUS

If there was one current director I have faith in making something good lately it would be Villenueve, he's not had a bad film for me in the last 10 + years.

Will be interesting to see where he takes it and hopefully they give him enough freedom (don't he would have accepted if they wont)

The last lot weren't too far off that. But I agree, give me a bit more cheesiness. Bond seems to have lost its charm over the years.

I've no doubt it'll be a good movie, but will it be a 'bond' movie...

Hmm. Odd choice. Villeneuve is a great director, but I cannot see how his characteristic style would work for Bond at all. Let's hope he's got the versatility required.

We know visually its going to look good now but we need to see who will be writing it. The writing will determine the fate of this one I think.

This is fantastic news, I'll be interested to see where he takes it. Villeneuve is responsible for several of my favourite films so I have high hopes. The only one of his that I didn't enjoy was Enemy.

This will be interesting for me. I've not seen a film by Denis Villeneuve that I've not thought was great, he's the current most consistently good director for me, but I'm not much of a James Bond fan.

After all the talk of Director I did a quick google on the possible actors.

Google AI overview says Aaron Taylor Johnson is likely to be the next James Bond....

Nah...
Without facial hair, he looks too American. With, he has all the scruff of Daniel Craig and all they eyebrows of Roger Moore.
They need someone who actually looks like Bond and can carry the seriousness of the role, rather than taking it back to the musical comedy days of corkscrew car flips.

Can't be worse than the Daniel Craig movies imo.

I'm probably going to get hate for this, but I really didn't get on with his era of movies and it's not because I dislike him as an actor, far from it. He overstayed his welcome by a mile to boot, and I'm pretty sure he'd admit to that himself as he more or less stated he only kept going back due to the money.

It's the first time I've been interested in Bond for awhile, I just hope it isn't more generic/action like some sort of dodgy Bourne spin off with an increasingly aging lead.

Nah, that's purely going off of bookies current takes at the moment. The answer from AI changes often and is basically what odds on favourites are, which is influenced by betting only, with the assumption that inside betting would indicate one in particular would be it.

It’s an interesting choice for a director, much better than I expected in many respects. At least the film will be in the hands of someone who can make a great cinematic experience. I bet his friend Mr Nolan is jealous.
