Hi, I recently bough a Denon AVR X2000 and am loving it in 5.1 mode, but when I listen to music and press the music button to set the output to Stereo mode, only the front two speakers play, the sub does not, my previous 5.1 amp played the sub in stereo mode, Have I missed a setting or is this normal for the Denon?

I have two floor standing speakers for front L/R, a Centre and 2x rear speakers plus a powered sub.

It depends how you've set up your system. If you let the wizard do it then it may well treat the floor standers as full range. This means that for music, all the bass goes to them. The sub is only used when there's a .1 audio track from DD/DTS/DTrue HD/DTS-MA. That's the risk you run letting wizards do the work; you lose control.

High gain...? sorry to sound like a noob... what high gain. there is a sub out rca which I used to connect to my powered sub?
Beside is is a left and right rca unused?

My floor standing speakers were set as large so will play full range, but my old amp was the same and it managed to use the sub.

What sub is it, you may not have high gain. As lucid has said, check how the speakers have been set up and if they are set to large, change it to small and check the crossover settings. Raising the crossover (think mines somewhere around 80 but this totally depends on the sub and speakers) will mean the sub kicks in sooner.

Well After Lucid mentioned the wizard, I decided to look at the manual settings, looks like the speakers were all set to 80 and the output to the sub was too low.. so now stereo mode plays my sub and my main front speakers :)
Just going to have to spend a bit more time messing with the surrounds, currently have the centre and rears set to 80hz as they are only small..
