Had a chap come round today to remove some dinks that appeared on the cars return from the dealer

Never had a smart repair before, but the chap came well recommended so I thought it was worth a shot.

There was a tiny dint in the bonnet with a larger one in the offside front wing. Chap turned up and got to work, accessing the dints from under the wing's splash guard and under the bonnet padding.

All done in around an hour. The bonnet dint is gone, and the larger wing dent is almost 100% - if you catch the light in the right way, you can just make out a minor oddity in the paint as the reflection is slightly different to the surrounding areas. A corrective detail should help.

£100 + vat. So cheaper than the £75 + vat per panel shown online.

All in all chuffed and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this chap locally (Aberdeen and it's shires).

I should have taken some pics, but I couldn't bare to look at the car - I also didn't expect him to get them out.

So there you go, learn something new every day.

Ofcourse I did. Can you guess what the outcome was?

Besides, the object wasn't to post a negative thread about dealers. It was simply to promote that some guys can do sterling work and one's perceptions can be changed.

I've used car ding removal companies for every car Ive purchased in the last 5yrs.. They work wonders.. I like to keep my cars ding free and as if I've just driven them off the showroom floor. Actually my last purchase a VW Gti 2007 was owned by a woman, and it had probably 8 or so dings in it.. All of them removed and you'd never of known it was so dinged up once upon a time. I think he charged me $125 all in.

I think smart repairs are good for what they are, its when people start asking them to do bigger jobs it all goes wonky.

I think you've got to go in it thinking that they can't work the sort of miracles that a good panel beater can, but at the end of the day it is a fraction of the cost.

I still need to get our sub-let guy to have a bash at mine. £15/£20 per panel vs our bodyshop wanting to repaint half of my car as a part of a few dent repairs :-\

It all comes down to being realistic. When the chap came and we appraised
the work required, we agreed that I wanted the repair to be virtually
unoticeable and that if he didn't feel he could meet this, then it wasn't
worth him taking it on. He didn't hesitate.

One of my work colleagues asked to see the repair this afternoon. I took
him out and honestly, I struggled to find it.

This shows a good example of what can be achieved:

Well next time, you'll insist they inspect your car before they perform any work on it. ;)

Seriously, I don't trust dealerships one bit and I have on occasion had them actually fill out one of those forms they they insist on doing when you get a courtesy car. You know, every little mark noted down on the form.

Seriously, why should you have to put up with them damaging your pride and joy? It's simply not acceptable.

Hmm I gained a dent on my boot from a firework (I presume it was as it happened over fireworks night). Sounds like it shouldn't be expensive to sort it.

I have a dent on the side of the roof next to where the left back passengers door shuts. Might give these lot a ring.

£75+vat per panel

bloke I have used in past is superb and charges £30 per panel

Same here, got 3 dents out of one of my doors, and was there for about an hour on that door, and got a nice crease out of the rear arch on my dads 911 took about 45mins for that one, couldnt believe the results, can't see the bumps at all anymore.
