Hi everyone, some week ago I dropped my laptop to the floor while it was inside of the backpack; luckily, it looks like it didn't take any damage, except of a dent on the low right side of the screen. It's a very little damage, but my laptop is new and I want to fix it, I'm writing here because I want to fix this problem by myself and I don't know how can I do, maybe you can help me (I hope so). Is there a way to fix this issue? Maybe a tool, a particular procedure or something?

I'm showing you a picture of the dented part too, so you can have an idea of the damage.

I really hope to receive an answer and help.

Thanks and have a good day.

This is the damaged side, I hope it's clear.

Unfortunately your pictures make it almost impossible to tell the damage.

If it's a dent on the actual screen, then no chance of getting that out, it'll be a screen replacement job - which are normally very expensive.

If it's a dent on the chassis and it's metal, you might be able to take it apart and hammer out the dent. If it's plastic, again, no chance as trying anything is likely to crack/snap the plastic.

Unless you know what you're doing, i would imagine you'll make things worse trying to rectify it.

Thanks for the answer. I'm sorry the image is not clear, I can try to take a better picture.

Anyway, it's a dent on the chassis, and the chassis is metal; in my opinion there is a way to fix it, and it doesn't look like a complicated job, I just don't know how. You said it's possible to hammer out the dent, how exactly?

Honestly, you'll only make it worse. If it's performance affecting then it needs a lid replacement, which may or may not be a sealed unit with the screen. With modern laptops, it's one for the professionals.

I'd just embrace the patina and put up with it, not worth spending hundreds fixing...

I see. Thanks for the advices.

Do you think that if it's not a sealed unit with the screen and if I brought my laptop to a technician, would it cost hundreds anyway?

Odds are it's supplied as a single assembly. So lid, antennas and the actual display panel all glued together.

Parts price when the one on my MacBook Pro was replaced under warranty was £600...

Metals used in laptop frames really aren't that ductile.
Aluminum in general has high tendency for "work hardening" and any extra bend after initial one can start cracking it.
And neither are magnesium alloys ductile.

So any attempt to try to work it back to original is as likely to break piece away as be succesfull.
And that display's lid's frame likely isn't cheapest as spare part. (+add work costs)

Thanks for the answers guys!

I have to get used to it I guess...

or maybe I could ask a technician to try to fix the dent without replacing any piece, I mean just by putting the affected part back where it should be; a technician should probalby know how to do that, or at least how to try correctly without creating new damages. What do you think about that?
