Basically got an issue with root canal in a tooth, my NHS dentist said its very complicated and that they cant do it, and referred me to a private clinic where they quoted me nearly 2k to treat my problems...

I am just wondering, shouldn't this be done under NHS?? In maybe another better equipped NHS hospital? Just doesnt ring true that if NHS cant deal with an issue they send you to private clinic and you have to pay for treatment yourself without any subsidies.

Anyone had similar situation?

Thanks

£2K!

I had to have a "Route Kanal" done a couple of years ago under similar circumstances (NHS dentist wasn't keen and referred me to private clinic) but it only cost me £400 which I thought was perfectly reasonable!

For £2K, are you sure that he wasn't suggesting an implant?

I was referred to a private clinic to have my wisdom teeth removed but only paid the standard NHS fee.

I can't see them being allowed to refuse you treatment, did they offer any alternative?

NHS dentists should do root canal, but they don't like to as they want to charge more than NHS pays them, you can complain if your NHS dentist refuses work covered under NHS and can lose his NHS status

The thing is, he did not refuse treatment he said that they just dont have the "microscope" to carry out the treatment so therefore sent to a private clinic which has this, but their quote is ridiculous and I am considered a private there.

Pretty much all I want is to get treated under NHS... How can I do this?

My dentist is only offering to refer me to a private clinic.

He has to refer you to a dentist which will do it under NHS, probably gets referral fees from private clinic, talk to the NHS dental line they can help or signpost you

Dentists = the lawyers of medicine

I'll do it for ya if ya like, I've ripped out most of mine myself. :D < That is Not me :p

go to your local dental hospital.

As mentioned above, get in contact with a centralised NHS dental group, or alternatively your local hospital assuming it does orthodontics.

You should certainly be able to get it done under NHS, being referred to private immediately suggests he can't be bothered or is getting paid by them.
