Dentists

Successive governments (Labour, New Labour as well as Tory) have done away with NHS dentistry to the point that most people are now priced out of dental care.

No different to any other country with a universal healthcare system, dental care is sometimes subsidised but mostly private(even in Denmark etc).

But it keeps the narrative that the ‘country is going down the tubes’ alive so fair play.

i had to stop eating apples, i used to have two or three every morning on the way to work.

the dentist told me it had eaten away my enamel and if i insisted on eating so much fruit, i should also eat cheese with it as it neutralises the acidity.

i still eat a lot of fruit though

No way. I often eat four apples a day...my teeth are in good shape though

Just to update with a happy ending, the dentist 30 seconds walk from this one put a post up on FB yesterday evening saying they were accepting new NHS patients so I'm booked in for my next check up with them in a couple of months for the princely sum of £27. Lovely jubbly.

Anyone around Loughborough, JDRM on Leicester Rd is taking on NHS patients. Been there a few times, basic service but they don't run all their appointments late like most places, longest I've had to wait was 7 minutes. Easy (free) parking across the road.

Just lost my NHS dentist. They sent me a letter saying they were turning fully private membership only and wanted £250 a year just for 2 check-ups and 2 hygienist meetings.

That's pretty cheap tbh. The hygienist at my dentists is around £85 now for an appointment.
