I'm in no way condoning piracy of games or anything else and don't want this to descend into a debate regarding the morality of piracy etc but I am curious, why do developers keep shelling out for expensive protection that doesn't work?

I keep seeing PC gamer articles about how this, that and the other brand new game has been cracked in little to no time at all and people arguing about why people pirate or not. The general consensus being Piracy is bad or good and the devs lose or make too much money depending on which side of the fence you sit.

Surely though devs must realise that sooner rather than later protection is going to be cracked and people will be getting their games for free, thus losing a smallish portion of sales. So why bother?

I personally have downloaded cracked games in the past but purely because of the ridiculous price attached to certain games whilst I was on benefits. I'm sure outside of the few people who love the challenge of cracking protection software that most people who choose to pirate games do so because of of the often extortionate prices.

Would it not be better for devs to charge maybe £25 for a new game instead of £39.99 or £49.99 etc?

That is a bit unfair. Maybe he had a medical issue and was unable to work? Not everyone on benefits is a scrounger. That is just what the Daily Mail would like you to believe because it sells newspapers to people who can't think for themselves.

Thank you mate, I actually received a diagnosis of treatment resistant clinical depression and was often fighting against slipping into be suicidal for quite some time.

Well Divinious I'm not going to argue I did pirate a game a few years ago, please feel more than free to report me to the police for it after all I committed a terrible crime, even though I did end up buying it in the end so I could get the DLC etc.

I trust you're very comfortable upon that morally superior high horse of yours...
