derBauer dissects a fake Ryzen 7800X3D

I don't understand these, surely they are returned because they do not function. Why would you go to the effort of faking it like this rather than just sending a completely different CPU/empty box?

Bought on the equivalent of Facebook marketplace. So likely once they got your money they just disappear.

But yeah. Seems like a whole lot of effort, when as you say an empty box would work just as well

Might cause a bit of delay as the buyer tries to work out what part isn't working or gets bounced by the seller saying it worked fine at their end.

Maybe they're meant to get past a face to face sale where the buyer will verify it's not an empty box before handing over the money.

I wonder if these are actually display samples made by AMD? That is, products for trade shows, shops, and the like, where they get put in places where they are more likely to get stolen.

I'd be surprised, this is far too much effort as it's trying to imitate the real thing. If it was a display item, why would there be a variance in the IHS? Wouldn't it make more sense to just use the original one instead of manufacturing a whole new design.

I bet a bunch of these ended up at Amazon as returns. It would be a pretty easy scam to do, buy a bunch of 7800x3D's from amazon. Swap them out and do a return, instant free cpu's!
I was going to say the exact same thing. Amazon don’t give a toss and will probably sell them on the warehouse. Lol

if its true they probably don't do it for high value products, I'd hope..
I do not buy any high value items from there. After seeing the items being swapped out more and more I just do not want the hassle of trying to get my money back due to some arse stealing what I have paid for.

Seen graphics cards, iPhones etc all been replaced with random items and then people having trouble getting their money back

I bought a Google TV 4k from Amazon Warehouse and was the HD version in the box.

Lot of scumbags out there switching products.

Indeed, If I get anything now (Of high value) I open it in front on my security system. This shows it being dropped off\handed to me, me opening the box and then seeing what's in side\received.

The issue with Amazon its got to have been done at their warehouse as its being sent out or by the delivery drivers as when you get the parcels the tape\box is all untouched.

Man this chap is scraping the bottom of the content barrel. I’m sure everyone is aware you role the dice when buying outside of official channels.
