Derren Brown: Apocolypse

For his next trick, maybe Derren could lock a guy in a basement for 24 hours, pretend to chop off his arms and leave him to die. Then when we've all had our fill of the "entertainment" the clever ruse can be revealed and the victim will be ever so greatful for the lesson. I'm sure there is a series of films not entirely dissimilar to this...

If a few of us got together and put someone through that do you think he would thank us at the end? We'd be arrested and/or sued for giving him PTSD.

I thought it was dribble and couldnt watch it for more than 20 mins. Its another way of pulling in the big brother and x factor watchers... generally people who have an IQ under 50.

Something good did come of it though, a new celebrity death match idea!

Darren Brown vs David Blane. Who would win?

Was there at any part of the show where Darren Brown started to get worried and got close to pulling the plug on the show? I kinda predicted that it would happen, but then thought he would be too smart to put something like that in.

The way the people kept focusing on Steve should have given it away most...so schteve what should we do now? Schteve you can change. Schteve there's a radio message from your family but not to anyone else. Schteve you can change. I'm not the person who can go back. But you are.

After about 2 mins surely he know.

And that's without examining the hypnosis situation.

Its your mum schteve she's okay.

He had to have realised he was just on an overblown adventure weekend

The guy that got on the helicopter first, who knew Steve for less than a day: "I can't go back, I'm a selfish person, I have no heart, you do Steve!". Who on earth comes out with that tripe naturally, and to someone they have known so briefly

So are those claiming fake actually going to make a serious argument as to how it was all put together?

Who is Steve? is that his real family? Who was in on it and who wasn't? Etc. etc.

I haven't seen anything to make me think Steve did not have a real experience.

it may be obvious to the veiwer whats really going on, and i think some people would work it out for themselves but they picked the person with that in mind, also from his perspective the experience would have been very different to what the viewer saw and we obviously didnt see everything from the whole weekend, there would have been more conversations etc, so he may have had no reason to doubt it.

The whole falling to sleep thing is ridiculous....

He's done this before on past shows. A random phone booth ringing in the street. Someone goes and answers it (only certain types of people would do this rather than just walk past), get hit with babble that overloads their brain and they lose consciousness. At least that was his explanation. There could also be some form of chloroform type substance released by the phone that would knock him out.

The only reason I can fathom that he didn't pick up on things that people are mentioning, like the way people talked to him and acted around him, is blind panic and fear.

I have to admit, maybe like a lot of people on here, in practice we think tooling ourselves up would be a good idea but in the heat of the moment (like anyone whose been in a fight), common sense go out the window.

Ok Ok, given it wasn't a reaction thing and he had time to think and prepare, it does seem that he was either a huge pussy hole or just a bit dumb.
If he didn't twig a long time ago then the last guy to come into the compound who was a terrible actor and would not have convinced me at all, would definitely have given away the game.

Let say for instance it happened to one of us and we did tool ourselves up and then went to smack and actor with a metal bar or something, then what.
Do people think that maybe there was little for him to use as a tool for this reason? Could he have been put in situations where Derren limited the amount of weaponry that could be fashioned?

More likely, it's a load of ******** and they're in on the act.

If he was an actor then he was better than all the other ones they used. He has also just ended his acting career for the sake of this one show, as he can hardly go to other auditions now without completely giving the game away. Why would he agree to that?

They went to great lengths to find someone exactly like this. That's why he was picked.

Which is why I am 50-50 on whether it was fake, it's easy to trick stupid people, couple that with the heat of the moment and hypnotism and you have a pretty believable scenario. They do say that hypnotism only works on the feeble and easily manipulated.

Even so, I think maybe he clocked it and carried on. He went back for the girl, I don't think that was heroism, I think that was cause he knew it was BS.

He probably says to them when they answer the phone , hi I'm Darren brown collapse convincingly and I'll put you on TV.

It wouldn't have been chloroform as if he fell unconscious he could hurt himself and C4 would be in the poo. I would need to see some scientific evidence that someone can have their brain "overloaded" and become unconscious from a telephone call. Can you link me to anything?
