Derren Brown: Apocolypse

It wouldn't have been chloroform as if he fell unconscious he could hurt himself and C4 would be in the poo. I would need to see some scientific evidence that someone can have their brain "overloaded" and become unconscious from a telephone call. Can you link me to anything?

Exactly, as if Brown would risk saying some psycho babble down the phone and have him just collapse there, that's pretty risky. That's assuming it isn't all twaddle anyway!

So are those claiming fake actually going to make a serious argument as to how it was all put together?

Who is Steve? is that his real family? Who was in on it and who wasn't? Etc. etc.

I haven't seen anything to make me think Steve did not have a real experience.

So you seriously believe he picked up the phone, said "alakazam" and Steve genuinely fell asleep from this? I don't think its the non-believers that should explain how it is fake, it is you who should explain how it is real really, if that's how you want to play it right?

Steven was not an actor. Do a tiny bit of research into hypnotism and influence and you'd realise that it is possible to make someone believe almost anything with the right methods. Also do a tiny bit of research into TV regulations and you'd realise that Channel 4's legal team would never just let it slip by that the entire thing is a conspiracy.

As for those saying "some of the lines that the actors said were unbelievable": what on earth are you talking about? Of course it's unbelievable. It was manufactured to influence Steven.

But of course, none of what I wrote will actually get through to the conspiracy theorists as your tin hats will protect you from the lies.

It's hardly conspiracy theory, quite the opposite in fact. The logical minds look at this and think it's all quite unbelievable. Being able to make people drop to the floor asleep with some hoodoo voodoo over the phone is quite too ridiculous to believe. It's all very illogical and no one seems able to explain it. I wonder if these believers think God is real too, that's illogical stuff, but "the man on the telly says it's true so it must be".

It is a conspiracy theory. You are theorising that there is a conspiracy between multiple parties (namely the producers, Steven and Steven's actor family) to fool the public. So, it's a conspiracy theory.

As for dropping to the floor, if hypnotists can make people believe they are chickens whilst on a stage then do you really think that making them "go to sleep" is difficult? They clearly didn't intend for him to drop on the ground like that because if they knew that that was going to happen then health and safety wouldn't allow them to do it.

so why didnt america and other countries do this research instead of using torture if its so much easier?

maybe they should hire derren brown facepalm.jpg why bother trying to manufacture truth serums ...........

IT'S A CONSPIRACY FFS!!

I believe some of the stuff Brown does by suggestion.

For instance the paintball gun trick he did on stand up for cancer I talked my wife through it as he did it, the way he said a-b-c-d-e and associated it with his fingers but left his little finger extended he did it.

I told her that gun E would be the last gun fired and thought I had the trick pegged.

He then pulled out an envelope with the exact order the guns were fired in (it wasn't a b c d e but e WAS the last gun fired) and that I couldn't work out how he did it.

Stuff like Apocalypse though its patent nonsense and not convincing at all, and the only reason people DO believe it is because the "slight of hand" type stage tricks are very good and therefore they assume that things like apocalypse are real.

And THAT is the real trick.

Are you asking why intelligence agencies don't use hypnosis for interrogation? The CIA tried in the 50s and 60s and reported remarkably good results. Do they do it nowadays? I don't know. Is it a lot easier than torture? No. Memory-recall interrogatory hypnosis is a bit more of an acquired skill than pouring water down someone's throat, don't you think?

Given the style of Brown's past shows (eg where he "predicts" the lottery numbers, or his numerous stage shows which are nothing more than lots of planning and age-old magic tricks), I have zero reason to believe this show is anything other than entertaining TV, like any drama for example. Not that I've watched it yet :p

As for falling asleep by having one word said to me, that would save me 30 minutes of my life each night so maybe I can teach myself :D

Because it only works on a small percentage of people. That's why he spends ages going through hundreds of candidates before finding someone that it will work properly on.

Why wouldn't h&s allow them to do it?

the small percentage that are willing to play along or cave into peer pressure

Because there's potential for serious injury when someone drops likes that. I suspect they thought he was going to do the normal standing unconsciousness thing. I personally don't really care but I can see a few people who would have been reeling when he fell.

Right, because that's so much harder to explain than the rest of the bs in the programme.

The burden of proof lies with the believers in this case I'm afraid.
