Maybe you can't, but some people can. There are some pieces of information which are so important to the people who have disclosed them that I have never passed them on, purely because the people who told me mean so much much that I would never be disloyal. Believe it or not, some people can keep their mouths shut.

Why would Joe Bloggs care about Derren Brown? He'd have to use his closest friends and family for all of his work. And I'm sure he's run out of available family members by now if that's the case.

The fake "sorry I've lost your money" makes it even more obvious the bloke was fully groomed and had previously been told his money, if it even was his money, would be returned whatever the circumstances. The alternative being that if the bloke was unaware he'd been hypno-ed into givng DB £5K and wasn't aware of this until DB told him on the show, then how on earth could DB guarantee this bloke wouldn't just say "Hang on, you stole £5K from me, granted if you'd won me £185K I wouldn't have said anything, but since you haven't, and since your that millionaire DB, I think I'd quite like to sue you as it happens" Groomed semi-stooge. I say semi-stooge because DB probably didn't tell him he was going to be deliberately one out, he probably genuinely thought he might win some cash, though having been told he defo wouldn't lose beforehand he would have been fine with it.

You are deluded if you think he deliberately chose to land next to his chosen number.

The only real trick was getting the guy hypnotised, and walk in to the bank for the purposes of the filming. Remember, he came back out with an envelope.. you never actually saw him collecting the money over the counter so for all intents and purposes he was made to think he'd taken out £5000 when he could have been made to take out £10 (if it was real :o)

It's all a load of balls, but the whole "pre recorded...not prerecorded" jumping back and forth ruined it IMO.

Well I think you are deluded because he can illusion a 1 in 14 million chance of getting the lottery right but he can't illusion getting a 1 in 39 chance right.
For DB that would be easy peasy lemon squeezy.
He lost on purpose but for what reason who knows?

You're getting confused, I maybe should have pointed out that I think the casino was fake and almost certainly pre-recorded anyway, they just either simply edited it or filmed it until it did land on 30, his desired number. The semi-stooge would not have been given that nugget of information either.

He lost [roulette] on purpose but for what reason who knows?

I think somebody already stated the reason he lost, so let me lay it out:

First off, let us call the man who he hypnotised, 'SubjectX'.

Now, we have to assume that the casino was fake. It was setup. It was probably a large room, with a roulette table, made to look like a real casino. This is the reason why he chose to use a VERY POOR camera.

He then placed a bet on the roulette wheel, with no practise (which is an insane thing to do, if he really was using timing, to predict the final result). In any sport or skill, people always warm up first and then start playing for real once they feel that they are "in the zone".

He lost the bet, by a single slot, which is incredible in itself (but I believe fake).

He then told us all that he would give back the £5k, which is fine because he never went to a real casino, so SubjectX's money was still in tact. No big deal.

DB isn't really out of pocket (apart from the cost of setting up the fake casino).

Now, lets assume once again, that the casino was fake. Only this time, DB guesses correctly and allegedly wins 170k Euros or similar. DB/Channel4, would now owe SubjectX, a substantial sum of money, which it would have to pay out of its own pocket because the casino won't pay out, as it doesnt actually exist.

Hence, the best way for DB to come out with some credibility, is to use a shakey camera, where the viewer can hardly make out what is going on. Then place a bet quickly (to prevent the viewers from getting a good look at the surroundings of the casino and point out errors/inconsistencies (which happened with his lottery prediction show). Then he managed to come within 1 slot of the casino. This allows DB to not be out of pocket and to come out with some credibility.

In the above way, I feel it is obvious why he did not guess the correct slot on the roulette wheel.

I'll go along with that

At last I managed to sit down and watch the last friday nights show, and all I can say, what a heap of rubbish. Could that sleave camera be any bigger and more obvious?? Even more so when he is walking round like Graham Norton on the pull in Brighton. Jesus, how more could he arc that wrist??? lol. Utter rubbish TV.
