Descent Clones (tunnel shooters only, not space sims) of notable significance:

Descent Underground (Descent 4)

Sol Contingency Proving Grounds

Sublevel Zero

Great to see these type of games are coming back with a vengeance.
Anyone who does not know about these type of tunnel shooters, think of the thrill of Unreal Tournament or Quake games with ability to move in any direction. A great deathmatch and CTF gameplay experience :D

Should be able to get our multiplayer fix soon, with Sol Contingency due out any time. Have to wait a while for the others.

Got my old sidewinder hooked up ready :P

Both Descent Underground and Sol Contingency will have multiplayer from day one releases. I think Sol Contingency is multiplayer only.

I have a few spare codes for Sublevel Zero, if any 6DOF fans fancy one then maybe post your favourite memory of the genre and I will trust a few out ;)

Sublevel Zero sounds *right* up my alley in so many ways. Single player focused, awesome pixel art style, RPG-style number damage indicators, LOOT and CRAFTING.

Except it's procedurally generated. That kind of sucks. The Descent games were great because they had the classic Doom-style map design and Doom(and thus Descent) would not have been nearly as good with procedurally generated maps. Encounters have to be designed with certain map areas in mind, you want a slight challenge to finding the keys and doors and whatnot.

I mean, I remember Rise of the Triad, which I loved. It had a random generation tool. Which I played around with quite a bit. But it wasn't nearly as good as the main, hand designed campaign.

But the real deal breaker is that it's a roguelike. I really dont like permadeath in games at all. Even if they allow some progression aspects or loot to carry over, I still HATE having to start all over again, especially if I've gotten really far. I've pretty much given up on them and feel there's other games that value my time better.

And with the other Descent inspired games being multiplayer focused, I'm still left without a good, modern Descent fix.

Very generous!

As for me, favourite memory of the original descent would be the mad scramble to the exit after blowing the reactor with about 2 seconds to go. Oh, and seeing the mega missile in action for the first time :)

Never played the original so won't be eligible but I like the look of this game as it's
-Space
-Corridor Shooter
-Pixel Art
-Colourful

Does it have 3D vision?

Sublevel is very slick little game. Don't be put off by the procedural maps.

Heck it's like £5 on sites like Kinguin!

Codes coming your way via Trust.

It doesn't support 3D Vision... VR support is coming though.

Hope you enjoy :)
