My site's in dire need of an update (design and content wise) so thought I'd try and get something done about it while I've got nothing better to do at home.

Knocked this up in an hour or so... not sure about certain things (title text included... will change randomly between 2 so tell me which you think's best).

Anyway.. http://rghjones.co.uk/new/. C&C appreciated :)

It's a bit too web 2.0 for me, it looks nice though. The only two problems are the tiny content area and the navigation looks like a bit of an afterthought.

I know what you mean - it's the whole diagonal stripes/reflection thing going on :p. Need to sort out the navigation properly.

I didn't actually see the navigation till the above poster mentioned it, personally I would give the stripes at the top more opacity and lower the opacity on the lower reflection as well the stark black lines of it look a little too forced.

Also perhaps align the text so its not justified, I think there are occasions when you do need to center the text, however this isn't one of them.

Just my two cents :)

Changed the reflection and text :). Again, need to sort out the nav properly.

Cheers for all your comments!

Grungy/hand drawn/textured has never been my thing to be honest. I'm not saying I haven't been influenced by the 'web 2.0' trends but I always have been a rounded corners, simple gradients and thin stroke/outline man :p.

You got any idea of how I can make it look a little less common/templatish?

Cheers. Have to say the small box syndrome is just a style of me :p. Like you say, I don't have a lot of content, but generally anyway I prefer to keep content areas neat and compact, though I do know that that's not to everyone's taste as well :).
