I'm a coder, not a designer, but from a quick tour around the net of about 30 big brands that came to the top of my head, nearly every single one has the logo in the top left corner of the page.

I've read various stuff about analysing eye movement and seeing where users look first etc...(top row, then left side apparently) but I thought this applied mostly to navigation and important content.

Is having the logo in the centre, or heaven-forbid the top right corner of the page a huge design flaw/mistake/guffaw?

Can anyone point me to big-brand websites with a top-right logo?

Or maybe some articles on logo placement / layout design because I've googled heartily and come up a blank?

It is natural for a person to look straight into the top left corner of a page, whether its a book, letter or webpage.

If the first thing they see is a corporate logo then they instantly know where they are and, if they know the brand, know what to expect from the rest of the page/site.

Exactly what Sirius said.

But also, a logo in the centre tends to make the page look empty, whereas if it was in a corner, you can fill the otherside with an advert (like ocuk), or apply a simple gradient or fill effect.
