Design the New Logo & Win a XFX GeForce GTX 285 1024MB DDR3 Black Edition Graphics Card

Have you ever looked at the OcUK logo and thought "I can do better than that?" Well, here's your chance. This is the moment to show everybody your skills and win a new XFX GeForce GTX 285 1024MB DDR3 Black Edition Graphics Card.

For the next 7 days we will be running a competition to design the new OcUK logo and welcome entries from anyone who thinks they have what it takes. You don't have to be a design genius and the competition is open to everyone apart from OcUK employees and their families.

Here are the competition rules :-

1 - The New Logo must contain the red, white and blue colours that suggest but not necessarily show the Union Jack flag.

2 - The New Logo should look like it is related in some way to the present logo although this may be achieved simply by sticking to the guidelines in 1 above.

3 - The New Logo should be created as a scalable vector graphic format (EPS) due to the requirements for high quality printing and re-sizing and scaled down to a JPEG (maximum of 640x480) for submission on the forums. We will require the original source files from the competition winner once over but DO NOT post the master EPS file here.

4 - By submitting a logo to us the competition participant hereby assigns any and all trade marks, service marks, registered designs, copyrights, design rights and any other intellectual property contained within the submitted logo to Overclockers UK (Esnet Ltd). Entrant hereby warrants that any submitted logo is free of any license to third parties and does not infringe third party intellectual property rights.

5 - All entries must be original and not be copied from any other design.

6 - The competition will be open from today till 11:59pm on the 2nd May 2009. Submissions received after this deadline will not be considered.

7 - This competition is not open to OcUK employees and their families.

8 - The winning design will be selected by a Judge who will be an OcUK staff member and the winning entry will be announced here on the OcUK forums on the 4th May 2009. The judge's decision is final.

The New Logo will be used on our Website, Forums, new Premises and Staff Uniforms. Let's see what you can do

Just a quick legal note
4 - By submitting a New Logo to us the competition participant agrees that the Copyright of the submitted logo belongs exclusively to Overclockers UK (Esnet Ltd) and agrees that Overclockers UK (Esnet Ltd) has the exclusive right to use, modify and/or reproduce in any way it sees fit.

Otherwise I could register the design/trademark and then submit it! Equally, you want an assignment of IP rather than a license to it, otherwise you'd struggle to defend your IP rights in the future.

By the way, this is a free suggestion that I in no way endorse. If you want my professional opinion as a contracts lawyer I am perfectly happy to give it at an extremely respectable price - contact me through trust. The above is just gibbering nonsense to which I provide no warranty nor suggest you use - it is useless clap trap you cannot sue me :D

Wow - cheap UK labour for the win!

Why bother outsourcing work overseas when you can get some mug in the UK to do it for almost free. The cost of this graphics card is peanuts to OcUK when compared to what they'd have to pay a proper designer to do this work - and handover all copyright.

Still, I'm sure a few mugs will fall for it! :)

I'd love to but I cannot use Inkscape for love nor money. Nor overpriced, but in this case free, graphics cards. :D

Hmmm, I might give this a go. I doubt I'd have much chance of winning since there is so many other people on here, but still.

I think it's actually very nice to see a company try to engage with the community like this, regardless (the original 9800 prize was stingy though!:p ). OcUK are generally pretty good at it anyway, but still, it's great that they actually acknowledge the community is here with something so important.

Besides, there are downsides to putting your company logo in the hands of a bunch of amateurs. There's no get-out clause in the rules, so if all they get is a bunch of rubbish, they've still got to choose something...

(Not implying the OcUK community is a bunch of talentless idiots, just that OcUK must have a lot of faith in us producing something good!)
