Designing for yourself.

Possibly the MOST annoying thing ever. I've been meaning to get my new site running for weeks now, but every time I start the coding, I decide I don't like the design and start from scratch again. :(

Anybody else suffer from excessive self-criticism? :p
 
I don't even get the stage of starting :p
Can never make up my mind what I want if I'm just wandering around aimless.
 
The biggest issue I have is seeing a design through to the stage where it is actually finished and looking good. I always look at it in the intermediate stages and dislike it so scrap the whole thing.
 
I've been trying to get one of my sites up for the last 9-10 months. I've designed the small amount I produced about 3-4 times and then pulled it down, and left it with a holding page of sorts.

Now over the past few weeks I've had a few ideas, problems is I'm not a designer, more a coder/developer, what's happening now is the theory is over taking the practical.

Same problem I have :( Im a coder rather than a designer so my sites always come out looking normal rather than having that "wow" factor. I cant even design a banner without breaking out in a rage. Lol
 
I've left my personal site untouched for years for this exact reason. When it's a client I can quickly assess what the look/feel and functionality of the site will be and don't have any real problems coming up with an effective design.

But because it's my personal website, there's just so many directions and fun things I could do that it just gets overwhelming and I end up putting it to one side for another year. :D
 
I have the same problem, I've got my domain and web space sitting there empty at the moment and I just need to get a design I like finished. I am having trouble deciding what blogging solution to use as I want something I can ideally drop in to my own design and is easy to style.
 
Yep.

I've written a few sites for people whilst my site is just sat there doing nothing, I never get round to doing it and when I do I can't make my mind up!
 
I find this in a way, each time I've redesigned my own site in the past I have gone through about 20-30 mock ups in photoshop before getting one that I really like and putting it together.

I have just done a new mockup which I am going to put together, about a month after i started experimenting with ideas in photoshop :p
 
My site is taking forever to go up, again i'm OK at the coding side of things but the design side just takes me forever! :(
 
Iv been doing odd bits today, although im going for another push tonight, and tomorrow to see how much I can get done, I can gaurentee though ill sit there and my mind will go blank.

My homepage has now got some...some...line breaks..wooo
